Latendresse will test the market

According to a Twitter report, it sounds like Guillaume Latendresse will be testing the free agent market after the Wild did not give him the $2.5 million qualifying offer. There was much discussion between Wild GM Chuck Fletcher and Latendresse's agent about bringing him back on a lower salary one year deal with bonuses, but it appears, for whatever reason, that the two sides could not come to an agreement.

As a Wild fan, I'm beyond pissed off that we didn't re-sign him. When he's been healthy, he's been great for us and has added offense to a team that so desperately needs it. I don't know what the hell Fletcher is thinking by not re-signing him. Yes he's only played 27 games the last two years, but his recent concussion was not his fault and he's reported himself that he feels better than ever right now after receiving treatment from the same doctor that treated Sidney Crosby for his concussion.

In any case, I wish him the best and I think he'll be one of the most underrated off season pick-ups of this free agency. I'm calling it here and now, which ever team signs him will find themselves with a 30 goal scorer. The Wild will regret not re-signing him, especially considering our need for offense.

Latendresse to go to UFA

Wouldn't mind the Oilers taking a chance on him.

And.. he wants to be closer to Montreal? I'm guessing he doesn't mean the Canadiens. Sounds like eastern conference preference.

Well, signing with the Canadiens and playing in Montreal is as close to Montreal as it can get.

He's played a total of 82 games in the last 3 seasons? Didn't realize he has missed so much time

It's 105 games in the past 3 seasons. 82 with the Wild and 23 with Montreal.

He suffered a groin injury and required a number of surgeries a couple years ago which kept him out for the rest of the season. The injury was the result of him being overweight and out of shape. That off-season, he worked very hard and came into camp in great shape. Then, last season, he was rammed head first into the boards and suffered a concussion. He underwent treatment and is now as good as new, or so he says.

Something the Wild are going to regret not having when we finish last in the league goal scoring wise (again) and find ourselves in the lottery. Oh, wait a minute, that's not right. They'll go on a pointless winning streak at the end of the season like they always do and draft around 10th instead of drafting in the lottery.

*obviously eating in this context is a metaphor for goal-scoring. we wouldn't want him ruining his girlish figure

as a Sabres fan, I know how that goes. Though at least this past season it worked out with Grigorenko falling to us in the draft and the previous season the pointless winning streak actually got us in the playoffs.

2 guys with size with a rep for being lazy and not giving 100% every game is not my idea of improving The Habs

Moen is not a 4th liner, Bourque wouldn't be ahead of Tender.

agreed, but signing him to a cheap one year deal can't hurt. Not to mention the UFAs everyone wants to see in a Habs uni may not want to be seen in a Habs uni. So we had better buckle up for July 1st, I have a feeling it's gonna get bumpy

I bet he goes to Montreal. I'll be surprised if he doesn't. I'd almost want to take a chance on him.

Any rumours on what Minnesota was trying to offer him instead?

I'd take him on the Habs at $2-2.5M for a 1-year try, which means I'd also have qualified him, I'm not sure how much less the Wild are thinking he should get?
