Mark Recchi or Mike Ricci?

Would be interesting. Not what I could have come up with when I was thinking about that 4th line veteran center I expect us to still sign. I don't think we'd count on him providing a lot more.

Well all the owners of teams are lucrative Vegemite producers, so plenty of money on the table there if I don't like the direction of the team

Just seems very suspect, or an assumption that since Modano is looking at a house or whatever in the area.

That's assuming that's the reason your friend had heard something.

Damn how I would have loved to have seen Modano-Koivu-Selanne 10+ years ago.

Maybe I'm alone in feeling this way, but last year I felt this team was doomed around this time. It only got worse after I watched some of those early 'wins' we had; thought we would have been lucky to get one point out of those games. This year is a bit different. I feel pretty optimistic about this team. I think we're going to make some waves next year.

It helps realizing how great the team was after Boudreau stepped in. That winning streak we went on was incredible. The horrific overall record really overshadowed the players accomplishments under Boudreau and it's fair to look forward to this year with optimism.

The team was underwhelming again once the deadline passed, so I don't know if Boudreau actually helped or the team responded to Murray's threats. I definitely agree that some players improved, but some of our best players didn't. Fowler, Getz and Perry were worse with Boudreau IMO.

It was a very weird year so it's tough to tell, but hopefully some of the young players continue to progress next year. If one or two of them emerge as legitimate scoring threats, next season could be 10x better.

How about Arnott for one year as a 4th line center?

Well that's the important part about the situation. We know that Fowler, Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, etc. basically had their worst season yet. But the younger players like Beleskey, Bonino, and Smith-Pelly really seemed to find new life and new confidence under Boudreau.

Arnott probably wouldn't settle for 4th line center role but I would like to have him. Huge guy who can still score despite the age. If they are really going to let Koivu be the 2nd line center, Arnott could center the 3rd line. Him with Ryan and Palmieri could be something to try.

DSP-Getzlaf-Perry
Cogliano-Koivu-Selänne
Ryan-Arnott-Palmieri
Winnik-Bonino-Beleskey/Staubitz

Although if Arnott and Bonino switched places (because Boner worked well with Ryan and Kyle) that 4th line could really play a lot of minutes and score too.

I wouldn't be againt getting Arnott.

Change Devo and Beleskey, i doubt Beleskey can be succesfull on right wing.

Anyway, i`d love Arnott. Looks like Bonino will have a shot at 2nd line C anyway - Arnott and Koivu would make great bottom 6 center duo.

Yeah, Beleskey or DSP on the top line is fine by me, as long as it works. I just tried to do a sketch what the lineup would look like. Here's another with your suggestions:

Beleskey-Getzlaf-Perry
Ryan-Bonino-Palmieri
Cogliano-Koivu-Selänne
Winnik-Arnott-DSP
Staubitz

There's some serious scoring depth with that lineup.

People are seriously content or happy with DSP or Beleskey on the first line???

Neither player has shown that they are proven Top 9 players. How in anyway are they first line players??? At least DSP is a prospect, but this is the same Beleskey that everyone wanted waived or cut every other game last season.

There's many complimentary players playing on first lines of NHL teams. Don't get me wrong, these guys aren't perfect, but given the options we do actually have at this point, they are the most sensible fits for auditions there.

DSP deserves a look. Its not ideal, but I agree he should at least get an audition But Beleskey seriously? How many times do we have to watch him not click on that line before we give up on it Rather see Winnik tried than Beleskey.

I don't want either on the first line, but I'd rather have DSP.

The third man on that line does not have to be Getz or Perry caliber. DSP deserves a shot based on his play at the end of last season. Belesky, eh, not so much. He's been there, done that, and did not qualify for a t-shirt or another shot.

that is some potential scoring depth. Cogs and teemu would get some free space.

Dsp, however, on the teemu line and cogs on the 1st line.

Like said, DSP and Beleskey are complimentary players as there is no one else to put on that line.

Smith-Pelly used his forechecking to great effect when playing with that line. He's not there to score, but to pin the defense in its own zone.

I understand the skepticism. Like you said, he's had many auditions there in the past, and it was rarely tolerable. That said, he's still a relatively young guy, and I have honestly have never seen him any better than after he cleared waivers last year. With enough time since his surgery last summer and a full offseason now, I think this is the time that will make him or break him (at least on the Ducks). I see DSP as a more likely candidate, as well, but after that, I think he could be an actual candidate this time around.

I wanted Arnott last season, he would have definitely been worth the money, and would provide much needed depth (just in case you forgot, we had Ben Maxwell playing ). Arnott would still provide good depth (as well as leadership, size, face-offs), although I'm not sure how much "juice" he's got left, he slowed down a bit at the end of the season in St. Louis.

And the fact that he's still available might be because he's asking bit too much money.
