Sign Peter Mueller

Does anyone else think it would make sense to sign Peter Mueller to a cheap 1-2 year contract and see what he can do? He is an injury risk but it would be a very similar comparison to inking Latendresse, which obviously is not happening. When this guy is healthy he is dangerous and we could really utilize his goal scoring ability. Think it will happen? I sure hope so

A cheap 1-2 year deal? Sure. Nothing more than that, though.

short cheap deal would be great. we can re-assess if he stays healthy and just trade one of our prospects or him to prevent the logjam up front.
Or i guess if he works out he could be Heatley's replacement.

Not worth it. If you guys didn't like Lats, you'll hate Mueller.

But he's a "good Minnesota boy" so I bet Fletcher signs him and congratulates himself on an offseason well done.

Where has anyone said they didn't like Lats, for any reason other than his health?

He's a higher-risk, lower-reward, more expensive version of Latendresse. If Fletch didn't want Gui, I sure as hell hope he doesn't go for Mueller.

Injury History:

2011-12 - Missed 41 games (concussion)
2010-11 - Missed all 82 games of the regular season (concussion)
2009-10 - Missed the last 4 games of the regular season and 6 playoff games (concussion)
2008-09 - Missed 7 games (concussion)

He's had...three concussions that caused significant loss of time? You want to gamble on that?

His most recent contract with the Avs was 2 years/4 Mill, you could probably assume that he would currently sign for 1 Million a year or slightly above that. Lets say it happens to pan out and plays 60+ games and he puts 20 G's in the net. Personally, I think for that kind of money it would be worth the risk. There are worse ways to spend a million, no?

He's going to get $2.5-3 million. No way he signs for $1m.

And you're making that same assumption that he stays healthy...we weren't allowed to do that with Lats.

The last thing this team needs is to sign a guy with a history of injury issues. And if some team is dumb enough to offer him anything north of $1.5M based on his stats a lone, let them waste their money.

But you wanted Lat with his injury history, why not want Mueller?

why would you think he'd get more than his last contract after his injury issues?

Lats had two different injuries, his groin and the concussion. Mueller had three concussions.

Look at Gaborik...after he had his major groin surgery, he has played 76, 62, and 82 games. Pretty healthy by his standards. He only missed ONE game with a groin injury with New York in three seasons.

I'm confident Lats' groin injuries are behind him, as it was a one-season thing, and he came into camp in shape the following year. Concussion might be a concern, but I'd take that risk.

Mueller with three concussions? No thanks.

Simon Gagne, Tim Connolly. GM's do stupid things in free agency.

Lats is by far a better player, a well rounded and clutch player. Its not even close.

As a plan B for a free agent forward I think he'd be one of the better names for us to look at. The concussions are a major concern as he'd likely be on a line with Bouchard and/or Cullen/Granlund. Kind of a small line.

Disagree heartily. Lats is a good player, and I have confidence that his good season with the Wild is the norm, rather than an anomaly. However, Mueller has consistently put up points everywhere he has played. Mueller's career average is significantly better than Lats' career best. Also, it's not like Mueller's numbers are just leeching off his teams, other than a partial season on the Avs (15GP) he's never been on a team that finished out of the bottom 10 in scoring.

As for the injuries, I'm pretty sure 3 concussions is false. I only count two.

Ultimately I don't understand why anyone would support a Lats signing but be opposed to a Mueller signing. The absolutely only argument I've seen is that some people once disliked a "home player" signing and therefore decided that everyone from this state should be forever banished from playing for this team.
