someone would be traded. Both Brodin and Schultz would play.

i'm looking at you Stoner, Spurgeon, and Prosser.

Spurgeon would be an interesting piece to dangle...

I'm looking at Scandella or even Gilbert.

Hate to say it but Schultz and Suter go hand in hand.

If we sign Suter, can we guarantee Schultz top 4 minutes?

If we sign Schultz, what do we do with Brodin? Scandella?

Gilbert - Suter
??? - ???

Scandella has potential but hasn't really shown he's worth top 4 NHL minutes IMO. But you're right--he'd probably get the most in return.
If Brodin starts on third pair i don't think it's a big deal--just give him PK minutes and Schultz PP minutes.

This organization and the coaches think otherwise.

Brodin probably could be sent to the AHL or back to the SEL.

If we end up with too many defensemen, we can trade a Falk/Prosser to a team needing depth, or possible end up shoving one of them into Houston. Also, there's no reason we can't carry 8D and 13F instead of the usual 14F and 7D, we did it a few times last year.

yeah, depends on what context you want to read it. they didn't say much of anything negative about anyone specifically and the only guys who weren't praised more than scandella were Falk and Prosser.

Do work Fletcher. in one offseason we could go from very weak on D to Strong.

From having only Scandella 2 years ago to Scandella, Brodin, Dumba, and Schultz if we got him.

we would also have far and away the best prospect group in the NHL. Granlund, Brodin, Coyle, Dumba, Schultz, Hackett, Larsson, Phillips, Zucker, Bulmer...

OMG the world is coming to an end !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, he knows he could slot in here easily, and with hard work, be on our top pairing.... I hope he comes here.

I agree, he should have little trouble cracking the top 4 in MN.

My 3 guesses in order are now.

Van, Edm, MN (The homer in me has to add MN)

While he doesnt know much about this situation he did drop the statment that Fletcher said he would never promise any prospect a roster spot.

It sounds like(Per Mckenzie) that Schultz will go to a team that promises him a top 4 spot..

That being said who knows where he will end up. Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto seem to be the frontrunners and have been all along.

Maybe Fletcher gives him a call and changes his mind..it couldn't hurt us as we could really use a top 4 puck moving defenseman like him

I think he'll go to Edmonton. They lost Barker and they need a top 4 defenseman immediately. They also don't have a lot on the backend as well.
I agree with Russo's skepticism in Schultz signing here given all the Canadian rumors we've heard about him, HOWEVER, this is one situation Russo honestly knows absolutely nothing about and i'm following Bob McKenzie here for my breaking Wild news. Love Bob McKenzie in general though!

I think he knows that too, and IMO he won't have as much competition...

In Toronto they have D coming out of their ears... As do the Rangers... Ottawa and EDM have interesting D prospects...

Our team looks like this with Schultz and Suter.

Suter-Gilbert
Scandella-Schultz
Brodin-Spurgeon
Falk

Thats a young D, it will struggle at times, but should be enough to get us into the playoffs.

Edit: We could stash Brodin in the minors, and have Dumba develop steadily in the WHL... Falk/Prosser would be 6/7 in this case...

Alternatively, say we signed Carle because Suter dumped us... Then swap Carle for Suter and we still have a solid D crops.. Lacks a bit of a veteran presence though.

Don't see why the Wild couldn't promise Schultz top-4 minutes and definitely PP time, even if we signed Suter.

Top-4: Suter, Gilbert, Scandella, Schultz
Bottom pairing: Spurgeon, Stoner
Press box: Falk, Prosser

Brodin could definitely use more development. Dumba as well.

After two seasons, we'd could move Gilbert or Scandella to make room for Brodin. Or bump Schultz down to the bottom pairing if he can't hack it.

Schultz would definitely get the most opportunity here, the problem is can you sell him on Granlund, Coyle, Larrson, Brodin, Koivu, Heatley, Seto over RNH, Hall, Eberle, Yakupov, the Sedin's, Toronto.....yeah no way.

EDM is our main competition in my eyes, Vancouver is the home town team but in no way do I see him going there...

Schultz (name edited) knows the area (Twin Cities - Dinkytown), which I think will come in handy. EDM has the top end prospects but I just don't know if it's the all important factor, closer to home may be and playing in Canada. I clearly feel as if we are trailing EDM in this fight but anything can happen. I am not expecting us to land Schultz, just have him as my #3 wish list for Santa and he never fails

#1 and 2 should be obvious.
