Huh?

• Implementation of a weighted Draft Lottery in which all non-Playoff teams compete
for opportunity to choose first overall in the annual Draft.

Stanley Cup champs would not be a 'non-playoff' team thus they would not be in the lottery

There's still wiggle room apparently.. From Dregers twitter:

I like this proposal. so long as the teams with the absolute worst win/loss records, don't slide down further then 1 spot in the draft order, they will still be in line to draft top young talent.

Tomorrow's headlines: New proposal rejected, no further talks scheduled.

Hope I'm wrong.

Now that the deadline of january 11 has been set, that would effectively kill the season.

I didn't hear/read anything about Jan 11th, so I'm lost.

Plus, 48 games doesn't work too well...
56 is the number (to me at least)
2 home games and 2 away games against the other teams in your conference.
Isles at Sens twice, Sens visit the Isles twice.
Habs at Tampa twice, Tampa at the Habs twice.
No out of conference play.
Teams 1-8 make the playoffs (no division winners, just one big conference tournament type of thing)

I think it was mentioned during a press conference that anything less than 48 games wouldn't be a valid season or something to that effect.

Why is everyone se set on 48 games ?
Why not half a season at 42 ?

Because Lord Bettman has talked it over with his accountants and money people and deemed that a 48 game schedule is the minimum amount of games they can play to create enough TV and ticket revenue for a season.

Do not question Bettman, he knows everything.

It's based on the precedent set from the 1995 shortened season. Moreover, it's a little more than half a season.

That does not mean it has to be 48 or nothing.

NHLPA to submit a counter proposal to the NHL today.

Don't really like the sound of that.

Hitchhiker: Think about it. You walk into a video store, you see 8-Minute Abs sittin' there, there's 7-Minute Abs right beside it. Which one are you gonna pick, man?
Ted: I would go for the 7.
Hitchhiker: Bingo, man, bingo. 7-Minute Abs. And we guarantee just as good a workout as the 8-minute folk.
Ted: You guarantee it? That's - how do you do that?
Hitchhiker: If you're not happy with the first 7 minutes, we're gonna send you the extra minute free. You see? That's it. That's our motto. That's where we're comin' from. That's from "A" to "B".
Ted: That's right. That's - that's good. That's good. Unless, of course, somebody comes up with 6-Minute Abs. Then you're in trouble, huh?
[Hitchhiker convulses]
Hitchhiker: No! No, no, not 6! I said 7. Nobody's comin' up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won't even get your heart goin, not even a mouse on a wheel.
Ted: That - good point.
Hitchhiker: 7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office.
Ted: Why?
Hitchhiker: 'Cause you're fu**in' fired!
