Edmonton can only acquire talent if it falls in their lap. No real scouting is involved.

Edmonton sucks. I bet they're still fighting for a lottery pick next year.

Im sure many were saying that after back to back 1st overall picks. Even with Shultz, their D is still laughable, and who is their goaltender, Dubynk?

You can mask the flaw of having a sub part goaltender with a great defense, EDM doesn't. You can make having a sub par defense with a great goaltender, EDM doesn't.

On 2/3rds of the important parts of a winning team they are still at the bottom of the suck scale.

A tanking team getting a guy who didn't sign with the team that drafted him. Two things that really rub me the wrong way.

Pretty much. They will guarantee him top pairing minutes. No other team would be able to do that.

I'm still pulling that somehow it's Minnesota.

As bad as many of their picks were, you have to admit getting Eberle was great.

I think the oil will have some interest in Prust. Lots of young ins to keep an eye on in Edm.

why not go to a team that maybe will win this year, then in 2 years go to oilers
Really man? He "wants everything?"

Maybe he just wanted an opportunity to be a top guy on a young team. Thus, assuming he does go to EDM, he picks a team with a ton of young forwards and few young defensemen. A team that really needs a guy like him.

I fail to see what has everyone so pissed off.

Not like he has to beat out many talented D-men to do it lol.

Which means he probably is, which is sad.

I would have gone with EDM probably if I was Schultz. They are darn thin on the blue line and he will get every chance there to get his game together.

I personally doubt he even would have played the entire season here in NY. Stralman has done a good job, and would this season have another year under his belt and that always helps Ds. Erixon would push hard, and the only thing Schultz has on him is a right shot.

They'll give him a real special treatment in EDM.

This decision thing is worthless though. He have had months thinking this through. No need to drag it out. He can make a bad decision or a good decision. Objectivly, there is no way improving that decision just thinking about it x hrs more.

In EDM he can be their next star on the blue line. It shows he's confident in his abilities and is willing to step in and step up to the task. Can't hate him for that. Good luck to him, now back to Bobby Ryan.

Loop hole in the system. Same way Wheeler did it. Its the benefit those have who plan on going through 4 years of school.

Unless he is over confident in himself and flounders.

I dunno but that has nothing to do with my point. A good coach can get the best out of his players sure. But even the greatest coaches cannot just pull **** out of thin air. Their defense even with Shultz rivals that of AHL quality, and their goaltender would be a back up on 25 or 26 other NHL teams.

And I'm saying that I'm aware of those facts. But I think he had the team he wanted to play for in mind before he started the process, and just went through with it to do his due diligence. Maybe "save face" was the wrong choice of words. I don't think that a stellar presentation from Sather, Richards, and a call from McDonagh would do anything. Why is that so outlandish?

Similar to LeBron. He was 95% decided on going to the Heat before he visited the Knicks, Clippers, Bulls, etc.

And I'm not even one of the people saying "**** Schultz" and "I hope he's a bust." I'm ambivalent. If he's a bust, fine. If he's an all-star, fine. We have enough d-men on our team and our system where Schultz would've been a luxury but we don't actually need him. Would I have loved to have him? Yeah. EDM needs him more anyway.

well i'm thinking that not landing him pretty much guarantees that stralman will be back, if he wasn't going to be already, cause we need depth on the right side of the blueline...and i'm totally cool with that after the way he played last year

Because he doesn't have to. He can "get away with it" because it's in the damn rules. There's nothing to get away with. Complain about the rules all you want, but the kid isn't doing anything wrong, regardless of whether you think it's "nice" or whatever.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Stralman has an absolute career year and just blows Shultz out of the water? So many people here would have nothing to complain about which means their head could explode from rational thinking.
