Tootoo should go to Winnipeg. People will know why Winnipeg never should have been cut from the NHL and add Selanee!
Brandon Prust would get respect from the young guns and create momentum if Eager doesn't want to do anything or maybe get Eager and Sutton more involved. I don't want teams taking advantage of our marshmallows upfront.
how effective was Hordichuk the last few seasons? bring in Tootoo or Prust to protect the talent Edmonton have to showcase now a days.
I recall Clutterbuck and Setoguchi being available at the right price a few months ago, trade for Clutterbuck, he is a classy guy.
and who would you rather overpay? Matt Carle, Dennis Wideman, Jason Garrison or Ryan Suter? if there is no chance in the Suter sweepstakes we better be trading for a defenceman and offer Justin Schultz something decent.

Those guys aren't going to "protect" the talent. Tootoo fights 4-5 times a year and Prust for the most part doesn't exactly go out and kick the crap out of anyone.
The only way we are getting protection is if we have a super heavy who is allowed to go out take a 7 min penalty + fines/suspensions.

I think the idea is that Tootoo will run the oppositions stars if the opposition runs one of the kids. The problem with super heavyweights is that people can just turn them down when they want to drop the gloves and they are too slow to catch stars in the train tracks.
Mutually assured destruction worked during the cold war.

I agree that is what Tootoo will do, but how exactly is that protecting anyway? It's like putting a bullet proof vest on after being shot. Super heavy's may be slow, but it's not hard to prove a point after a whistle in a scrum. If Mac would've once went nuts like he did in the AHL I bet a few more players think twice before taking a late shot or extra shot on our kids.

Staubitz didn't stop taking runs at our kids after that.
Neither form of intimidation is perfect but coaches will be more hesitant to send guys like Staubitz out to light up our star players when they realize doing so absolutely puts their own star players in harms way. Plus the instigator rule makes it really hard to send a message like MacIntyre would.

Yes he did.
That was MackIntyre's last game. Staubitz never did **** after that in that game and if Smack would have been in our lineup in the future, I doubt he would have done anything then either.
The problem is the league and their rules/suspensions step in and stop the enforcer from properly playing their role.

I'm pretty sure we have a guy like that in Ben Eager, who, although not "super heavy", is large enough, fast enough, and can play well enough to (theoretically) be a good third liner. Why he's not taking 7 minute penalties to make a point is beyond me, since our team needs to have these impact guys to make any attempt at "frightening" the league. Plus our PK ain't terrible.
Seems to me that he just needs a bit of a boost to his career. How that will happen is still a mystery. Maybe we need to bring on a guy like Tootoo, who has a reputation of being a dbag.
Kings looking for a 1st round pick for Bernier. Not likely but it indicates their expectations. MPS or Marincin would be in that ball park.
IMO, a tandem of Dubnyk and Bernier is much better than having just one young goalie. If they both turn out, you can always trade one but the value would be a young starter, not a prospect.
If the Oilers intend to be a lottery team next year, then lets give Khabbilbulin 30 more starts.

I agree..This might be our best opportunity to shore up another hole for a reasonable price....Personally, I think Bernier will be better than Dubynk but only time and circumstance will tell.

A guy like Staubitz isn't going to stop doing his job because a heavyweight feeds him a few shots before being dragged off by linesmen. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
The instigator rule has killed the role of the traditional enforcer. The powerplay incentive gives a dirt ball like Staubitz too good of an excuse not to fight.
We might as well get someone like Tootoo who can match dirt with dirt and not be a liability on the ice.
Hordy played 187 minutes all season getting 3 pts and was -3... Parros played 293 minutes and had 4 pts and was +1.
With goons like this there's so little difference it hardly matters.
At least Prust, Tootoo or Konopka have another element they bring to the ice.
Prust and Tootoo can play a bit. I think they'd both be upgrades on Hordichuk, who is himself an upgrade on the likes of MacIntyre or Goddard.
Konopka was of no interest to the Oilers last year when they were looking for faceoff men and big enforcers, I can't see how he'd be of interest to them now.
