Not sure what he has planned, but there is a good chance we could offer the most money. If we bring in Schultz I would guess that the Oilers will probably have a better shot at the playoffs over the Habs as well. Yakupov + Schultz + Brodeur fills a lot of needs.

Secondary scoring? Check
Puck-moving from beyond the blue? Check
Excellent to decent to betterthanKhabi goaltending? Check

Now what do Yakupov and Schultz do?

I love Brodeur, he in NO WAY fills any needs. He may play for 1 to the MOST 3 more years, how does that fill a need in goal.

The Oilers can dump money on him, and that's fine, but he's not exactly short of cash.

My guess I see him going to a contender-ish team, probably Chicago.

The guy has made big money and has accomplished everything there is to accomplish. Who knows what he's basing his decision on and what the biggest factors will be. Dollars, term, chances of winning a championship, geography? Mind you, aside from offering him an obscene amount of money, we probably don't fit into many (any) of those categories.

I hope this is the right thread? I just want to chime in and say I think we really need Ryan Smyth in the room, he brings the right stuff and the right mix for our room. We can't pay him like a top sixer but I'd be willing to offer him term on a smaller deal to keep him around. Worst case scenario in a couple of years I'm sure he can still play on the bottom line.

Other thread has a post that the Ryan Smyth-Oiler negotiations should be done by today.

Here's hoping one of the greats stays here.

I think the less veterans in the room who were buddies with horcoff and moreau the better

that said smyth on third line for a year at 2-2.5...sure

Yeah, that's the myth of Ryan Smyth alright.

He could be if you think about his divorce fallout

I'd take a chance on Armstrong but I'm pretty sure he's gonna sign in Pittsburgh with BFF Crosby.

If his friendship was guiding his decisions why did he leave the first time? I'm not sure if I want Colby I liked what he brought in his days with Pittsburgh, but I haven't got much viewing time on him the last couple of years.

Oilers moves

Signed
Schultz
Prust (w/e he wants)
Carle
Resign
Smyth
Hordi

Lineup
Hall RNH EB
Hemmer Gags Yak
Smyth Horc Jones
Eager Belanger Prust
Petrell / Hordi

Call up line
MPS Lander Harti
Pitlick

Smid Petry
Schultz Carle
Whitney J. Schultz
Sutton Peckham/Potter

Call Ups
Potter (if he clears waivers) / Tuebert

We start the Mps Lander Harti Pitlick group in OKC where they can play all roles, and by doing this we add to our organizational depth, cause lets face it we will have injuries (we are the Edmonton Oilers)... I believe this lineup can fight for a playoff spot, we have added toughness and depth throughout the lineup...

Thoughts?

I'd take a chance on him. He'd be a nice 3rd line winger.

Regarding the goaltending situation, I feel like the Oilers are pretty comfortable with Dubnyk. However, if Brodeur's looking for one more year, I could see the Oilers offering a substantial contract. Frankly I can also see the Oilers going after one of the other big fish on the market, like Suter or even Parise. They have the cap space (even with the kids' new contracts, lose Horcoff and Khabi and that won't be a problem), and there's mounting pressure to win.

I don't see the Oilers getting any of these guys, but I just wouldn't be surprised if we hear that they threw their hat in the ring.

If we could add one more veteran dman, that would be awesome. Im thinking a shut-down guy, or a guy with a good two-way game, someone like Allen, Hjalmarsson, Methot etc.

Petry-Smid
Whitney-N Schultz
J Schultz-Hjalmarsson

That is a huge upgrade from last years blue-line.

Hokay. Hear me out here before people go crazy on me, and actually think about this idea. Tomorrow go out and sign both Jagr and Penner...Forget about Smyth. Run 3 lines that are a serious threat to put the puck in the net at all times.

Hall-RNH-Yakupov
Penner-Gagner-Eberle
Hemsky-Horcoff-Jagr
Eager-Lander-Jones

1st line kills teams with speed, second line Gagner and Eberle will use finesse and Penner would pick up tons of garbage goals, third line would be a tough line to play against for almost any defensive pairing, Hemmer feeding to Jagr constantly would be crazy. And well, I don't think it has a chance of happening but if we got Suter I think my pants would get alot shorter.

I was just thinking about these two moves. Jagr and Penner would be Great. Penner and Smyth would be as well.

Jagr and Doan would be better. Actually just Doan would be sublime.
