Chicago - Tampa Bay

Vincent Lecavalier
Teddy Purcell

Marian Hossa
Johnny Oduya
2014 2nd Round Pick (CHI)

The Hawks solve their second-line center problem and make up for the loss of Hossa with a less injury-prone winger that has chemistry with his would-be center already. Meanwhile, the Bolts get a great winger and a solid pick to replace the loss of Vinny. Oduya is added as a cap dump and bottom-pairing D help.

Thoughts? Revisions?

Sure, it's not like the Hawks has terrible D last year or anything. Let's trade away defense for forwards.

How a 2nd rounder two years down the road replaces Vinny I will never understand.

I would love Purcell, but not at the expense of giving up Hossa (leading scorer), a pick, and having to deal with Vinny's contract. Hossa's isn't great, but I doubt he plays it out.

Just stop with the proposals. Your Kane to Los Angeles one on our board was embarassing.

Hawks move the best player in deal and take on one of the worst contracts in NHL

I doubt Tampa would say yes actually, it opens another hole in the top six and FA pool is already thin.

If Purcell is one of your best players then you need better players.

Bolts will take it except Seabrook instead of Oduya and the 2nd rounder.

Both sides so no.

No way the Hawks would or could trade Oduya even if they tried.

No from a Tampa perspective. We're thin at the center position, Purcell plays really well with both of our centers, and we don't need any more bottom pairing dmen. Even w/out all of that, Vinny's NTC says "non".

Just throw a bunch of money at Olli Jokinen. That way you get to keep Hossa, Oduya, and the pick.

Yeah, because trading away top4 defensemen is what Tampa needs to be doing right now...

I disagree. Lecavalier's contract is far too long. It's not the worst thing right now since he's still a good player but he's aging and it is only going to get harder and harder to move.

The problem also is that they have Stamkos as the staple #1C (good problem to have, lol). So 7 mil for the 2nd line center is just not worth it. Moving that money to the wing (and saving some money in the process) for a similar term is more than worth it.

As for the center depth, that can be solved through free agency with people like Olli Jokinen or you can just stop gap it with whatever while you breed Namestnikov for the position.

Jokinen is the only decent UFA #2 center, and isn't going to come cheap. Tampa has decent depth at winger(don't need Hossa) and Vinny's value is at an all time low because of recent injury shortened seasons.

I disagree paying a #2 center #1 money is always not worth it. You don't pay a player based on what position they are in the depth chart, you pay them based on what their value is to the team. If you have an above average #2 center you pay him an above average amount of money.

This trade makes Tampa worse, which is why there is no reason to do it.

Would much rather have: Lecavalier+Purcell than Jokinen(or worse)+Hossa+Oduya(Who is redundant for Tampa)

We've done the "rotate free agents" game and we're not doing that anymore. Frankly, 7m for Vinny even on the second line isn't that bad, its just the length. Cap continues to climb, we have flexibility, and losing him isn't going to come at the ******* cost of losing Purcell. Wing depth is not our strong suit.... yet.

That said, yes I agree that SY isn't as enamored as people on this board are about Vinny, so if the price were right he'd try to move him.
