Downie, he can find and effective role on any team in the league. MacArthur isn't a good enough scorer to be a top six player on a real good team and doesn't play the game of an effective bottom six player. If you suck like the Leafs and can give him loads of offensive opportunity then MacArthur is your guy. If you're a contender looking for a super effective third line player then Downie is your guy.
Neither player would be on a 2nd line for a contending team, but I think Downie would be the much superior 3rd line player due to he plays with that edge
Actually, Downie could be one of those rare Lemieux-like players which might not be the most talented of your top 6, but compliments them just right to raise the level of play of the others on the line.
Both Tampa and Colorado now he has found a niche as a complimentary guy to the team's stars (Stamkos - Downie & Landeskog - Downie). He definitely has the skill to be like Claude and the bite. Guess we'll see how he shapes his career over the next few years as he hopefully becomes part of the playoff push in Colorado.
Downie is somewhat underrated around here. Actually its not really, but for a while he was really only looked at as a Pesky 2nd/3rd line grinder type guy, but In his time with the Avs he really showed off some great playmaking ability and a solid drive to the net/scoring touch.
It'll be interesting to see what happens with him next year, if he ends up being a guy who actually has some good offensive ability capable of putting up 50-60 points, or if he's more of a 3rd line Checker with limited offensive ability only capable of 30-40 points.
