Paul Martin Thread

He had a down year well a horrible year. He just doesn't seem to fit the pens system. Put him in the right system he's a 2-3 defenseman pretty easily. So for fans of teams that need defense what would you give for him realistically? Please no trolling.

Seems the Pens will only be interested in trading him if they can acquire Suter or another big name D through trade or UFA. Makes sense because the D market is ridiculously weak and they're probably better off just hoping Martin bounces back or figures out their system a bit better or maybe they tweak the system a bit to fit him better. Who knows. Bringing him back is a better option than a lot of the other D-Men on the market though.

He is a decent player. Is he worth the 5 million? No, but hes still a solid top 4 D man who can play big minutes. Shero already said that he has received calls from teams interested in him. If the pens sign someone like suter/allen/carle look for martin to be moved either for picks or a package for a top 6 winger.

If Pittsburgh signs suter which i dont think they will because Detroit is in the best position to offer him more but i could see martin going to St Louis for a deal involving stewart

There's a market for him, but it's in the same range as what the Pens got for Michalek, in my opinion. A prospect or two and a mid-round pick

As far as trading him goes, Pittsburgh should probably sign someone as a UFA before they trade him. Giving up Martin and not acquiring someone with the experience to play big minutes is a bad plan.

Please Shero stay away from Carle. Just keep Martin if Carle is the only option. 3 years of Martin > 4+ years of Carle @$5million+

If he had value he would've gotten traded for scraps, not the cheaper, better defenseman (Michalek). Martin either holds extremely low value or Shero is an idiot who chose to keep Martin and decide to give away Michalek instead.

His contract is absolutely brutal. I could see GMs around the league not having any interest. Especially before free agency.

Purely a cap dump. And michalek wasn't right here either.

If the Pens could dump Martin's contract they would have (in place of Michalek's). I think the Pens will have problems finding a taker.

They got rid of michalek with a horrible return. Did you see how bad the returns on players were at the draft? Its obvious michalek has a better value. At the draft we would have lucky to get a 6th for Martin. That simply isn't worth it.

Have it on rock-solid authority that while Pgh. has received expressions of interest in D Paul Martin, he’s not being actively shopped now.
This was on the 25th....

No, you actually got arguably an overpayment of Michalek's contract in that it cost you nothing. Getting rid of Martin's will be much more difficult.

the question with Martin is not the return you could get but rather whether you could dump his contract at all!
