Ottawa is not a bad fit either but he would be behind Karlsson on the PP

I am biast but Rangers are the 2nd best fit given he can play with McDonaugh and be on the first PP unit right away
I doubt he signs with us, but one of our posters pointed out he would likely play beside him on the PP

still cant believe oilers went to all that trouble... Sure its good to have these big names call him, but they played on the team like 20-30 years ago?? I'd listen if i were him, but that wouldn't at all be a deciding factor

All that trouble? Kevin Lowe and Gretzky are still very good friends. All it probably took was a text.

Wrong. Why bother trying to sign a guy you don't need?

gretz is at Rexall a lot, and Coffey was at the draft table last year, they are still in touch with the team. It can't hurt to have the best player ever, and one of the top offensive defensemen ever tell them that they like the Oilers direction, and see him being a good fit for a key position.

Edmonton has had a tough time attracting FA's all times greats showing loyalty can't hurt. (I can't see it being decider, but if he is truly on the fence stuff like that can make a difference.)

if he didnt listen to Neidermeyer in Anaheim, what makes you think he will pay much attention to a phone call with Gretzky or Coffey. Not saying they won't have an effect on him, but chances are, he's just taking their calls to be polite and really doesnt give a *******.

someone put them up on youtube. they let you watch Youtube in Canada right? I hear you about the regional restrictions...so many times i've wanted to watch a live broadcast on tsn's site and end up with the blank screen "Restricted in your Region" crap. Only AFTER sitting through a commercial or two.

Because Coffey is talking about a team he would apparently like to play for, unlike Anaheim.

I'm sure they are speaking more with respect to the fans in Edmonton, the city, and the organization as a whole.

It's not going to be a deciding factor I'm sure, but it would likely help if he had any doubts about the city or the fans in Edmonton.

If he's focused on playing for a good team right now, then it won't matter and he will go elsewhere.

They post the episodes on the official website after they are broadcast locally. That's how I have to watch them too since I'm in Milwaukee now.

Perhaps but from an Oiler perspective, can't hurt, right? We need to go all out and if he goes somewhere else, oh well, we gave it our best shot. Hate to find out later that showing a great interest from the organization may have swayed him and we didn't try..Isn't going to cost that much for a couple of phone calls.

They probably talked to him about their experience as a young talented player growing up with other young talented players.

...and no offense to Niedermayer. He's not "The Great One".
