Earlier clips were from Friday's 2-2 tie, while on Saturday, Minnesota defeated Wisconsin 3-1. Here are some blurbs from Saturday's game on our prospects:

Quote:
Christian Isackson sparked the Gophers midway in the second period putting pressure on pinching Wisconsin defenseman Jake McCabe. Isackson won the battle, got the puck into the neutral zone for Bjugstad, and the big man from Blaine fired a short side slap shot to beat Rumpel for his sixth goal of the season at 7:14 of the second period.

Isackson had a good night playing the body at times, gaining the zone when needed, and even stepping up to protect Kyle Rau during in a scrum in front of the Badger net.

“We need him scoring for us,” said Lucia of Isackson. “If you’re going to be in a top-six role, you gotta’ get on the score sheet from an offensive standpoint and he had the assist on that play. He’s one of those guys that needs to take the step this year for our team to be good.”

Link: http://www.gopherpucklive.com/index....=news&id=11585
Quote:
Wisconsin had the next three shots on goal to make the count 7-5, but the tempers would flare as 7:23 remained in the first. Penalties at 12:37 for Wisconsin and Minnesota included Jefferson Dahl and Nick Bjugstad for the Badgers and Gophers along with UW’s Jake McCabe and Minnesota’s Christian Isackson. All of those penalties mentioned were roughing calls.
Quote:
At 10:30, Wisconsin’s Jake McCabe was shown the door when he was called for kneeing. Minnesota’s fourth power play of the night could’ve been able to give the Gophers a two-goal advantage, but time would run down on Minnesota though the Gophers would get some great puck movement on the advantage.

FS Wisconsin, Big Ten Network, NBCSN, etc. will air seven of their next eight games (nine of ten if you include these past two Minnesota games); see a full TV schedule HERE; ie. Fri Nov 30 at Denver airs on NBCSN.

Also, @AndyJohnsonB5Q and @AndyBaggotWSJ cover Wisconsin hockey on Twitter.
I'll also add that Chris Peters views McCabe as a bubble guy:
Quote:
For McCabe, that was a well-timed pass on another front. Tim Taylor, USA Hockey’s director of player personnel (essentially the chief scout) for the U.S. National Junior Team was in attendance, I’m told.

McCabe is a bit of a bubble guy for one of the defensive spots on Team USA’s roster. He needs good performances at both ends of the ice to maintain consideration. That was a great example of what he can do.

The second-round choice of the Sabres in 2012 (44th overall) has just been getting better with every season. He has great physical strength and can play with a physical edge, is a smart defender who can take care of his own end and then he’s shown flashes of offensive skill at an increasing rate.

He's a great combination of speed, grit, heart, and offence, and plays smart in his team's end. I think he has an outside chance of making the WJC squad, but I wouldn't count him out yet, especially with the year he's been having. If he somehow manages to take it to a whole other level, I think if you're the guys running the Canadian squad, you have to give him a long look. You would be foolish not to. Draft selection aside, I think what a player has done this past year should and has more credibility vs. the hype machine pimping a player by the media. He did play in the Subway Super Series for Team OHL for one game. Granted it's one of the 3 major leagues that comprise the CHL, but it still says something, and from a fan's perspective in the Catenacci thread in the Prospect's section who who went to the game observed (that's a mouthful!), he was the best overall forward for Team OHL in that game, even over Ryan Strome.

A mature player who plays a complete game putting up dominating numbers on one of the best Junior teams in the CHL this season... yeah, Team Canada won't ignore that. Some think it's foolish that he'll get a look. I think it's foolish for those to believe he won't.

PensFan6687, I couldn't agree more with your post. Catenacci is a player that can be plugged into all situations. He can play centre or wing, PP or PK, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, line. He's a one of a kind player that can adapt to playing any role and fill in should a significant injury arise to a top line centre. He's a defensive specialist and at the same time an offensive threat. Don't forget his skating ability and success at the face-off. Games will be played on an Olympic size ice surface which will factor in on the selection. in order to succeed, TC will need to address speed and good skating ability which has Cat written all over it. There's also Cat's other side, In todays game he laid out 4 or 5 different Spitfire players with crushing hits. Owen Sound's coach Ireland and GM DeGray have stated in interviews that Cat has been the best all round player in the OHL thus far and a big reason for Owen Sound's success........I'm sure HC has taken notice.

Armia out indefinitely, with our good friend concussion-like symptoms.

Was cheapshotted by Ramzi Abid on Saturdays game, Ässät won 3-2, and Armia missed a breakaway.

I wonder if Catenacci and Girgensons are headed toward being 2/3rds of our future 3rd line?

Both are full effort guys and seems like their games would mesh well together.

I'd love to see a line of Catenacci-Girgensons-Tropp in a few years. Or maybe Cat-Girgs-Erne

I hope Girgensons becomes more than a 3rd liner.

Ideally, I'd agree, but I wonder if his skillset won't be more suited for 3rd line play.

And besides, he's likely not bumping Armia, Ennis, Hodgson, Grigorenko, Pominville and Vanek out of the top 6.

When Girgensons is 24 and aproaching his prime Vanek and Pominville will be around 36 years old, Hodgson and Ennis will be 28 and may not even be here. The team will change so much by the time Girgensons even approaches his prime.

Very, very true.

I suppose I was looking more short term with my statements.

Yep short term I think that he can make a good defensive 3rd line center but as he approaches him prime I would hope the offense comes and he can be a top 6 foward. I think he definetly has the upside to be that.

Not sure I agree with the bolded.

Catennacci without question should be on the team as he has played as well as anyone in the O this season. He pretty much is the complete package and could play on any line. IMO, he is a better fit than Monahan as he will actually play physical, is better defensively and just as good offensively (and a year older).

Will he? Probably not, because he doesn't have a great history with HC and they tend to keep the same guys. However, I'm sure it helps that he keeps lighting up Spott's team.

Not exactly our prospects, but here's an update on the summer camp invites:
  • Mackenzie Braid returned to Sudbury-OHL; 0+1 in 10 GP.
  • Kevin Czuczman is back at Lake Superior State-NCAA; 1+2, 42 SOG, 7 PIM, 7 BLK, +3 in 12 GP.
  • Mark Guggenberger signed with Alaska-ECHL (Dubinsky, Gomez, N.Thompson); 10-3-0-0 in 757:32 TOI with 289 SV on 321 SA for a .900 SV% and 2.53 GAA.
  • Kyle Jean signed with the NYR before making it to our camp; is currently on the Connecticut-AHL roster; 5+7, 33 SOG, 13 PIM, E in 14 GP.
  • Jamie Wise isn't playing anywhere from what I can tell.

Armia with post-concussion symptoms will miss at least tomorrow's game versus Pelicans Lahti; day-to-day at this point. [LINK]

Chris Peters looks at Team's USA WJC defense options, including McCabe:
Quote:
Conversely, Jake McCabe is logging big minutes in a top-four role at Wisconsin and he’s getting the job done at both ends of the ice. He has good enough puck-moving ability, the mobility to play on the big ice and the strength to make things difficult for opposing forwards. He had a decent camp in August, nothing eye-popping, but he proved he can play at that high level. He’s looking more and more like he’d make a great sixth or seventh D and play effective minutes. McCabe can be a little mistake prone, but I think he brings certain elements that make him more attractive than other candidates. He can also do something like this every once in a while, too, which is nice.
And sticking with Wisconsin, here's the breakdown of their new forecheck, as the team adjusts to a 1-1-3; this obviously impacts Navin too (featured in #4, 9, 10).

***

Lieuwen made 22 SV with 5 GA in a Thursday win. He followed his worst outing of the month with a 33 SV, 1 GA win on Saturday. Here's Saturday's highlights:

Kucherov to the Huskies.

@ HuskiesRn: TRANSACTION: Huskies get their hands on Kucherov (AS) in exchange KAMAEV and a second-round pick in 2013

Catenacci's Attack vs Lepkowski's Colts for first place overall in the OHL. Both Sabres prospects were outstanding! It was like a play-off game in November. Cat draped all over Mark Sheifele shutting him down and Lepkowski all over Cat. Lepkowski looked great all night and is turning into a great prospect. Cat shuts down probably the top line and player in the league and set's up the winning goal for 1-0 Attack win.

Not too surprising to hear. I think Lepkowski gets overlooked when it comes to Sabres D prospects, because he's not flashy or offensively driven like the others. If he ends up anything like Robyn Regehr in his prime, he'll turn out to be a solid 5th rounder.

If he ends up resembling any form of Robyn Regehr at any point in his career (including now) that's a steal and a half. I am not expecting anything near that but I would be glad to be proven wrong.

9/15 on faceoffs too which is nice to read because he hasn't been doing the best in that department.

Well he's not highly touted, so I rely a lot on first hand accounts like this to make that type of judgement. Perhaps I should've said that is what his game resembles. I'm hoping to catch at least 1 or 2 Barrie games this year, so I can make an in-person assessment rather than relying on hearsay to form my opinion.

Gotcha, I think I could agree with that. There seems to be some definite similarities in their game.
