McCabe sat out tonight:
Quote:
According to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal, neither Derek Lee (concussion), nor Jake McCabe (ankle) will be available for the opener according to Wisconsin head coach Mike Eaves. However, Eaves would not rule either player out for Saturday's contest.
Quote:
McCabe was injured this past Saturday in Grand Forks. In an odd play, McCabe's ankle got caught underneath a player as his momentum took the rest of his body over the top of the player.

Good Lord, I love Dan Catenacci. DanCat. People better not forget about him, because he's going to be an NHL-er soon enough, and I think he'll be a damn good one. He'll end up as a winger, most likely - maybe he can replace Stafford in a few years.

Ullmark got a start with MODO (SEL) yesterday and allowed four goals ... highlights can be seen HERE ... not the best of outings and was pulled.

Swedish media reporting that scouts from Sabres and Islanders are in the audience in Stockholm for the game between AIK and Modo. Linus Ullmark will start as backup for Modo.

Oh, yeah, Armia with 2 goals today against Kärpät (2nd in the league)

Ässät are on a tear, and it's look like that after all, this team is heading to playoffs. They're now 9th in the league with the middle pack really, really close. 11th team (first team to miss the playoffs) has 70 pts, 2nd team has 84 pts, in a league where regulation win = 3pts

Is this another case of Armia elevating his game as the games become more meaningful?

Id say yes. Of course the team has played very well too and improved a lot. Last two games: Ässät has won league leader and runner up in away games.

Armia has been playing very well in the last 5-6 games. Not producing though, but what has been different in his game is that he hasn't frustrated even if he hasn't scored points. Today he had amazing game and scored two important goals. If the team continues like this, it's very likely Armia will keep scoring those goals.

Armias Judgement= He will not make it to the big show.
Good size, hands and shot but too slow and weak. He is sooooo lazy out there that it pisses me off and Ässät is not even my team.

Makarov won his tenth straight game yesterday, stopping 37 of 38 shots against ... up next is Hunter Shinkaruk's Medicine Hat Tigers.

Meanwhile, McCabe and Nelson are both back playing ... McCabe added an assist in a 3-2 loss yesterday to Minnesota ... McCabe(Navin)-vs-Isackson again on Sunday, this time outdoors at Soldier Field and that'll air on the Big Ten Network at 4:30PM ET.

Colin Jacobs just scored his 2nd hat trick of the year in the WHL. He was not even on my radar. Any info to supplement the Hockey's Future profile?

I couldn't get the video to play (error on my end) but here's a youtube clip. Armia's first assist starts at :23 for the impatient folks.

All I can say about Dan Catenacci.........unreal!! This kid is doing it all for Owen Sound. The other night in Guelph he probably won 90% of his draws while blocking shots and killed off 9 of 9 Guelph PPs. Tonight against the Niagara Ice Dogs, Cat set up a beauty then scored one using his speed and strength to blow past the D. He went head to head with Ryan Strome and out played him to earn first star. There isn't another OHL player that bings an all round game and compete level like the Cat. At times I only wish he would shoot more and use that shot he has instead of thinking pass. To find a defencively responsable, skilled scorer who is also a PK specialist with a high compete level and tough is almost impossible to find. Sabres fans are going to love this kid's game.

Among all of the Ryan O'Reilly talk of late, does Buffalo have a player of his ilk already in the system in Catenacci?

Cat and Girgs both project to be similar players at ROR.

He's echoing a pretty common sentiment among Finns.

Loods, you've nailed it on the head! That's exactly who I would have compared Cat to as I've watched O'Reilly play many times with the Erie Otters. Cat is a far better skater than O'Reilly and will put up better numbers offencively IMO. Just to compare, O'Reilly scored 16 goals and 50 assists for 66 points in 68 games his last OHL year with Erie. I know the Sabres like grooming players in the AHL, but they should start bringing young guys like Cat in early as Edmonton, Colorado and a few other teams do turning these kids into franchise players. A penalty killing roll for Cat or a 3rd/4th line roll this season would have done wonders for his development. He's more than capable, a kid with Cat's tools could easily have handled it and the return would have been greater than the risk.

If he's as good as you're saying, I'm sure we'll see him in Buffalo next year. I don't think Buffalo designated him as a recall option in the event of the lockout ending, so they didn't get a chance to see him in training camp when the season started. Usually 3rd rounders aren't much to get excited about, but it seems like Cat could become a very good 2nd or 3rd liner.

We could absolutely use his speed as well, we've got to be the slowest team in the league.

I understand satchmo and many others calling Armia lazy, but slow and weak are things that he is not and I haven't heard those things said about him, at least not by many, in the past year or so.
