Armia got huge confidence boost from that first goal and was dominating the whole game since that. That's both good and bad news, the good part is that when he's on the roll he's just unstopable at FEL level. The bad part is that he's still not contributing for team enough when not on roll.

I would say that he's ready to try NHL, couple of years away from contributing in NHL-level and five to seven years away from dominating NHL. But one day, he will.

It would really be great to see Armia have a dominant year start to finish points-wise. Thanks for the updates as always guys.

Thank you for sharing! I loved the shrug after the second goal.

Armia had some good vision and creativity. Excited to see if his game translates well to the NHL. If it does, he'll be a nice 25-30 goal scorer. Hopefully more.

Amazing! Looked so good in that highlight reel. Thanks for that. Cannot wait to see him next season.

Deked the **** out of a couple of TPS-defencemen late in the second. Could have been the goal of the month, but at least he drew a penalty there.

Armia is now 2+2 in 2 games, and Ässät are at the top of the league, 6p 6GF 0GA (regulation win = 3 points)

A reasonably good start to the season I must say.

Edit: Ässät's next game is Wednesday, away against Kärpät.

What a bum, can't manage more than a four point weekend. Pffft, 66% of the scoring going through him is slack.

Yes, I am kidding. Love the quick start.

I'm glad to see that Armia's off to a quick start, which, IIRC, is a nice improvement from his slow start last year.

***

Kea fought Dundas on Thursday and scored last night. He also had two assists in three earlier preseason games for Saginaw. Here's the fight:

***

Nelson notched another goal last night in a preseason win over Vancouver.

Quote:
On the ice Saturday, returning forwards Brandon Magee and Ben Walker led Victoria with a goal and an assist each. Also scoring for Victoria were returning forwards Jamie Crooks and Logan Nelson.

"We're looking pretty good," said Minnesota native Nelson, selected in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL draft by the Buffalo Sabres and a U.S. team prospect for the 2013 world junior championships.

"The veterans have taken the younger guys under our wings. We have confidence going into the season and are getting some chemistry going," Nelson said.

Makarov played 59:03 in goal last night for Saskatoon. He allowed three goals in the final four minutes of the game -- a period in which he only faced seven shots -- and took the loss, stopping 17 of 21 in defeat.

Is it too early to start calling him a "mental midget"?

So...question about Grigorenko.

Let's say there's a prolonged lockout, but the season does happen this year. Let's also say he looks good as ever in the Q. Do you call him up for training camp/9 games in the middle of the Q season? What if it conflicted with the WJC?

I know it's probably too early to speculate on such matters, but I think it's an interesting question.

The CHL and NHL have agreed that signed prospects can be recalled (unsigned prospects can be signed and recalled) once the lockout ends.
It has to be done within a week of the date players report.

By the way..

Next time a fan of another team claims that Grigorenko is a flight risk, point out to them that he didn't sign with CSKA like people claimed he wanted to, even though it would be perfectly fine now that the NHL is locked out.
Look at Nail Yakupov, for example, who has already signed with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk.

Armia had a couple of chances today, but overall was quite invisible like the whole team in the 6-0 loss.

Ouch, Can't win them all. I'm really not worried they lost, but I'm more interested how well Armia can bounce back.

That's ugly. I hope he has a good bounce-back game. One thing I worry about with him is how visibly frustrated and stuck he seems to get once he starts struggling or slumping. Hopefully he's matured a bit in that regard and looks better next game.

Not concerned in the slightest. 19 year-old still scoring above a point/game against professional men? Yes, please. He isn't going to score points every night.

Right but if he comes back and leads his team with a strong performance the next game it'll say a lot about where he is right now. Of course he's going to go some games without scoring but I'm hoping the prolonged funks are behind him.

How many "prolific scorers" go thru slumps? I would hazard a guess and say 90% of them. I'd rather have a 30+ goal scorer that goes thru slumps from time to time, than a 20 goal scorer who steadily gets it throughout the season without slumps.

I just hope he doesn't partake in slump busting
