So the field of available UFA talent keeps getting smaller and smaller. I have a few fears for the 1st for Buffalo:
- Introducing the newest Sabre... Olli Jokinen!
- "Buffalo is pleased to announce the acquisition of Jay Bouwmeester."
- "Terry thought Jaromir would be a great addition to the team and on a multi-year deal we felt we had to bid for his services."
- Shane Doan on a three year deal.
- Paul, $4M/year, Gaustad.
- Kristen Huselius. At any price.
What are yours?

All of yours and ville leino ..... O wait
Basically any fa that was overpaid. I'm more excited for the trades that should be made vs free agents
I feel it will be a boring July 1st
-Trading for Rick Nash or Patrick Marleau.
-Moving Roy for peanuts (not likely, but still a concern).
-Overpaying for "plan B."
-The potential for a Paul Gaustad comeback-tour.
"We feel that getting a healthy and focused Ryan Miller is better than any player we could add in FA at this time. Plus, the competition that Grigorenko and Girgensons gives us at the center position automatically makes us a better team. Don't forget that when we were fully healthy, this team was among the best in the NHL. I can forsee us making a minor move, but right now I'm satisfied with our roster as is."
--Darcy Regier on July 8th........after making no moves up to that point.

Believe me, I would love to get Ryan as well but I think the price will leave us a tad bitter-sweet if it happens.
I know you have to give to get but I wouldn't be happy at all seeing Ennis and McNabb both leaving town and I would have to think Anaheim would want both of them.
"The Buffalo Sabres have come to the realization that a Sabretooth cat isn't really a good mascot for the team, so we have decided to change the mascot to a giant walking Sabre sword that bends at the waist and tries to slice children instead of banging drums, sliding down ropes, and breaking glass. Sabretooth is kinda out of control."
Trading for Marleau/Stastny would be a bad idea IMO.
If we trade any of Ennis/Sekera/Foligno/McNabb for anything but a legitimate proven #1 center or a 1st line winger (i.e bobby ryan), I think that would be a step back as well.
I don't see us being very active in free agency honestly. signing a 4th line center like Dom Moore might be a good idea, other than that I'm not sure what we would/could do.
No Ennis for ryan. Roy + staff? for Ryan. Now we're cookin (;
Don't think Anaheim would want anything to do with that since they would be taking on salary and their bottom line appears to be important in the way they operate.
I guess my only concern is that they trade one of our young center(ish) core in a move that doesn't make us definitively better and true contenders.
I don't really have concerns that they'll miss out on a big singing because I don't expect a big signing. I'm not worried that they'll make a terrible signing because I think they'll either go after a guy like Parise and Semin and offer him an Erhoffish contract (reduced cap hit, huge commitment), which I can swallow, or sign a low cost player. I don't think there's much risk for a "Leino contract".

Ok I'll stop .....
Jason Botterill and Doug Houjda 1.5 a piece on 3 year deals
-Jokinen or Gaustad.
-Trading for Nash
-Trading young players (Ennis/McNabb/Hodgson) for old(er) players (i.e. Nash, Stastny, Iginla, etc.)
-Trading Sekera as a piece for anything less than a 1st line forward
-Radulov (don't think it will happen, but you never know)
-Semin for more than 4 years and more than $6M per. Honestly, I could deal with 4 years- $24M- $6M/yr. The advanced stats that have been shown make me believe a lot of what is said about him might be exaggerated.
-Jagr, at all.
- SIGNING DEREK ROY TO A CONTRACT EXTENSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!
