Stanley Cup Finals in 2006. Chance to play with three 1st overall picks.

Whereas there's nothing about Toronto that attracts him. Our team is not contending and our prospects suck.

And, in another sport, there are insider predictions that the Toronto Blue Jays have won the Yu Darvish auction.

...I don't get how this is a thing of pride. A team was LAST two years in a row and then second last the next year?.

We were contending for a playoff spot for a longer period of the time in the last two seasons than the oilers have for the last three season or more! Our prospects are fine as well, people here screaming about MPS recall?

Also from the 06 cup finals I think only three are really retained...in Horcoff (no where near where he was), Hemsky (was he still injured then?), & Smyth(Who might be an UFA!).

Are you guys happy we got Gardiner instead of Schultz? He could very well have pulled this stuff on us and went UFA.

I'm glad Murray gave us Gardiner.

Well it's Strickland's attempt to scoop this, you don't think he's strongly suggesting it's down to those 2 teams? Standard tweet.

It's completely different. "Word is" means he knows just as much as you and I. He heard a rumor just like any other rumor.

The insiders haven't mentioned the Leafs as a top choice for him for weeks now. Not a surprise.

I'm guessing he's looking at the prospects of which Ottawa and Edmonton are a fair bit more solid than ours

It's all rumours right now, but again Strickland is not Eklund.

Are you saying "prospects" as in players or "prospects" as in shot at making the team? Why would he care about the former and he just has much chance here at the latter.

I don't think he's coming here, but I hate it when Leaf fans sell the Leafs short.

Good point. And so far Gardiner has actually proven himself at the NHL level.

That's fairly obvious but what does that have to do with anything? Strickland is not Bob Mac either or Darren Dreger. It doesn't matter who is whom, it's what he knows and I'm not convinced that a St Louis guy knows anything about what's going on here. Hey, it maybe true, but I'm thinking he's trying to go off the board to give himself some credibility if it's true.

I'm saying he might be looking towards the future and a chance at success. He might want to be a part of a team that has the highest potential for success moving forward. And Ottawa and Edmonton might have the best stockpile of top tier prospects, along with Florida.

Going by the Brad Richards sweepstakes last year, most of the experts said word is he was leaning to The Rangers, they got that one right.

Regardless of what happens, one of Lebrun, Mac, Strickland or Russo will be wrong this time.

Only 1 guy has inferred it was the Leafs, that was Russo, but now he is backtracking with the Rangers inferences this morning.

I interpret that as the Oilers and Sens being the final two teams to meet Schultz. I don't know the context, though.

Schultz would have to be an idiot to choose NY.

Not saying as a Leaf fan either. I'd go to Vancouver ahead of NY for sure.
