i love me some david musil. we're going to need him to become a great shutdown guy when he's ready. smid can't do it all by himself!

He's adept to playing both sides as well. unlike Smid who needs to be LD.

In addition to what some of the other posters have said contracts for prospects in the system don't start until they are playing in the ahl or nhl. They have one salary for when they are in the nhl and another (lower) salary for when they are in the ahl (called 2 way contracts).

A list of Oilers prospects is here:
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/teams/edmonton_oilers/

A good site for contracts is capgeek. The Oilers page is here (Prospects are listed under "Non-Roster Players"):
www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=1

Maybe they are trying to avoid an Erixon type of issue? I don't know.

Perhaps he's closer to being ready than we think?

But yeah, if he IS going back to Junior, I guess I can see why they could have waited...especially considering the contract siteeation. They must have their reasons though.

Maybe getting it done before the new CAB/lock out.

I can see him playing in the AHL this year, he's more physical then Smid and IMO has a better shot. Musil and Teubert would make a fearsome pair for the Barons.

He's too young for the AHL.

He needs one more year in the WHL.

Not sure musil needs another year but it definatly would not hurt. He'll have to force his way into the AHL on the ice.
