You expect that from a management team that called Colby a top 6 player.
Nothing makes sense.

I am also surprised about the re-entry waivers. Wouldnt it have made more sense?
I dont personally care if any of LACK leaves, but if I could have picked one to drop it would have been Lombardi.

Armstrong has some physicality, and will fight. Lombardi is another small weak tweener. We have too much of that. But ultimately I dont really care that much.

A healthy Armstrong did very little for us.

Armstrong tells Sportsnet the Leafs told him "they didn't think I could do it anymore." Says he wants to prove Toronto wrong.

Yikes, I smell some bad blood here.

It's funny that some people wanted him out. Now that he's out people are complaining the way he's out. Then he signs with another team and people are complaining about that too. Did many of you expect he was going to just ride into the sunset and not play anymore? Some of you people need to get out more and complain less.

If you were a pro athlete who was basically told you don't have it anymore and they would rather pay you to leave, wouldn't you want to sign with that team's biggest rivals to prove them wrong?

welll, I hope he plays well (and is healthy) but to be fair, what? he's been here two years? and hadn't played a entire season? I could see why the Leafs would think that.

Go back and review Burke's presser.
And look at this

Boyes $1M for 1 year to NYI.
Connolly 4.5M for 2 year Leafs

Armstrong $3M for 3 years to leafs
Armstrong $1M for 1 year to Habs

Someone like to overpay for underwhelming free agent talent

Might want to put those comparisons into the right context.

Yeah, I'd love to see Komarov put him through the boards.

Good for Army, but not sure how much he has left in the tank. It has looked like the NHL is too fast for him and the NHL has taken away those semi blindside hits he specializes on. At 1M per it isn't a major risk for a team to take, so Habs took a chance on a good character guy.

I loved Army's heart and compete, but based on his play last year, he had trouble keeping up with the play. We will see, but I agree with the Leafs analysis.

"Compete" is not a noun.

1 mil this season, and 1 mil next season will count against the Leafs' cap.

They couldn't put Army on waivers and/or re-entry waivers because he wasn't being designated for assignment, returning from the minors, or being designated for release from his contract.

So leafs are paying $1 million to have Armstrong NOT play. While Montreal is paying him $1 million to HAVE him play.

Good job Burkie.

Quit your whining. You act like this is the first time the Leafs have bought out a player's contract.

Haha so true.

Now he'll slow the Canadiens down. This is a win / win.

Burke can at least learn to cut his losses on his investments when possible. This is a very good use of the buyout cause he's become ineffective.

Zing.. So true. Remember, that's the new whine on these boards for next year.

"BURKE IS PAYING COLBY TO PLAY ON THE HABS NEXT/THIS YEAR. FIRE BURKE!"

Nothing changes from year to year, only the complaints.

Armstrong was not a problem with the Leafs. They have cap space and are apparently not making any moves today or have not been successful making any. The 1.5 million they are saving on Armstrong will likely go unspent. Furthermore, it establishes once more that Leafs have no respect for the UFAs they they bring in, Jeff Finger anyone? No wonder they fail recruiting UFAs all the time. I bet you Armstrong proves them wrong this year and he has a solid 3-4 line year with the Habs. Burke is not a good GM. I'm very not very impressed right now.
