Nolan Baumgartner retires; becomes Asst. Coach w/Chicago Wolves

Per Andy Strickland:

Link: http://www.truehockey.com/articles/J...tzThe-Decision

Quote:
Hearing Nolan Baumgartner will be added as an assistant coach under Scott Arneil with the Chicago Wolves.
This would explain why Baumer was sitting with the Canuck brass watching the Prospect Camp start the other day.

Congratulations to Baumer on a long career, and and kudos for playing with so many of our prospects and teaching them how to be professionals.

Glad we kept him in the organization in some form. I swear he had more hockey left in him though. Oh well, congrats on moving up Baumer!

Good for him. Never complained (okay, there might have been that one time iirc) and took his job as a mentor and teacher to the younger guys seriously. Glad to see they are keeping him in the fold. Loyalty breeds loyalty.

Good news. Keeps him off the ice, but in the room.

His relationship with the young guys seems so good and fun going off twitter.

Seems like the type to become a coach. Good guy but his best playing days were behind him.

i didn't like him as a player but i liked him as a mike keane-type influence. i was happy for him when he got the ill-advised million dollar deal with philly and i'm glad we're keeping him on.

maybe he gets promoted after bowness punches schultz in the face in two months?

Sounds good.

Some much needed turnover on our D depth chart - Rome, Gragnani, Parent, Baumgartner.. clearing the way for some youth.

Good one...

Next one to be reported is Harold Snepts calling Schultz and gushing about the '82 cup run.

This guy is aces! I was at a Canucks game a few years back and when all the boys were leaving the ice after warmup Baumer saw a little girl hanging over the rail. He actually stopped and went back to the bench to grab her a puck. The look on that girls face was priceless. Class act all the way and I'm really happy for him that he found a job within the Canuck organization.

The fact that the Canucks kept a player like Baumer around for most of the last 10 years shows what a great guy he is. Good for him.

Would not be surprised to see him as an NHL one day.

With a follow up call by Mike Bossy to confirm Harold's story.

I think that was when they told him he'd be given every chance to make the team and then tried at forward in training camp with a ****** bag and a turd sandwich for line mates.

Baumer is definitely a real good guy, down to earth. Should make for a good coach.

anyone remember that sick goal he had... well actually it was a sick pass from sedin and he buried it.

It was an unreal pass everyone thought it was going to the other sedin/burrows and it was dropped the to trailer baumer and he fires it home

been scouring youtube/canuckshd's channel and I can't find it. I think it was against the flames... Maybe it wasn't baumer but I think it was..

You're thinking of the Brad Lukowich goal.

Remember that one season he lead our D in scoring and plus minus?

Whatever happened to his NHL career?

That WAS his NHL career. He's played 142 NHL games, 70 of them was in that season. He was an AHL-star who got a few NHl callups here and there, with a single great season.
