My issue is that even if 100% healthy, they aren't as good at playing hockey. I'd be happy with one or the other if we miss Parise. I wouldn't want to take that risk with both. If we don't get Suter, it's possible we could afford one of them even WITH Parise.

I'd be going after Suter hard. But I'm very leery of having too many big long contracts.

It's not that Suter isn't a good player, but I don't want him at $7m+. I know I'm in the very small minority there, but I don't see him as worth that much money. He's good in every way but not elite in any from what I've seen and I don't want to pay a non-elite player that much money. And that is especially true with all of the defensive talent we have and the raise Letang will need in a couple of years.

Parise is perfect for this team and for Sid. Chancellor Vitale summed up why a few posts ago much better than I ever could. He will do so much more for this team than just score some goals and it will pain me if we miss out on the opportunity to get him here.

That said this photoshop has me going from 6 to midnight...

The last time defense was a huge need we spend 9M/year on Michalek and Martin. Although you can't operate scared, identifying your weakness and addressing it isn't necessarily a sure-fire success.

I would say they offer 7-7.5 for Parise, and if they go after Suter, it would be 7 on the dot

We'd have to move Martin at least to get those two at least.

Moving Martin had been discussed for Malone or a pick, I don't really know if Suter would even want to come here given that he wants to stay in the West. But if Martin is moved, getting back a big winger would be a good return. Dunno about Malone though, he doesn't exactly help the cap relief that we'd be looking for

I love how Rossi puts "I'm told" in his Mr. Obvious predictions, to make it sound like he's reporting something new / from a source.

"If Parise signs for a $10M cap hit, I'm told it will be the largest FA signing evar!"

"I'm told if we miss out on Parise, it's not about Sid."

"I'm told if we have to restructure Sid's Contract to $20M per season, Geno will have to be traded soon and that teams are interested but that Shero is not actively shopping him at this time."

What a ****ing toolbag. Hey Rob: we understand that "I'm told"= you talking to yourself, as opposed to Penguins players or mgmt, who don't talk to you, except during media scrums generally.

Thats what I believe as well. 7.5X7 years for Parise, 7X7 years for Suter. BOOK IT.

I hope.

Offering up to 8 mil for 10 years is pretty ridiculous for Parise, but losing Staal, Im starting to lean towards doing anything necessary to get another elte talent behind Sid/Geno. Big insurance policy if Sid goes down.

And since we have 14.5 million in cap space, Martin goes for a bag of pucks, which I don't want because he can still fetch a decent return...

I'm sure Shero can still get something for Martin. I mean, Martin was atrocious last year, but in the right system he can still play. Evidence in New Jersey. We can get some solid prospects for him.

Defensive prospects, of course.

What do you think the proper beer for FA day is? Something Pittsburgh based to help with the Parise-to-Pitt karma?

My wife and I have season tickets to the musicals at Benedum each summer and tomorrow we have tickets for Annie @ 2pm. I realized this on Wednesday when I looked at our packet of tickets and started to freak out. Luckily my wife loves me and just laughed and said she'd take one of her friends with her and I could stay home and watch tv and play on my forums. That's why I love her
If we are talking karma, how about Rolling Rock? They left us for NJ, so Parise leaving NJ for us would balance things out on the karmic scale.

Of course, you might have to wash it down with a real beer.

What about a deal around Radulov's rights for Martin?

Looks like he made another tweet
This is why I hate Rossi. It's all common sense bulll**** with "so I'm told". Yeah no **** moron. Any of us with half a brain can tell you we would offer 7.5 mil long term if we really wanted him.

I hope not, Radulov is a great player but the way he got suspended by his own team makes me really iffy about him...

I agree, but man, if we lock up Parise we better make a serious trade for some defensemen. Our defense looks ****in' terrible right now. And we still have our worst two failures in the offseason clinging on (Martin & Orpik).

Someone mentioned Boychuck this week, and I wasn't on board at the time, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. Overpay a little for Boychuck - why not? Find someone via trade. Giordano might work, though I don't know his contract.
