I don't expect to get Parise, but I'd like to know that HE, not Nonis or Fletcher, Brian Burke himself was on the phones pushing to get him. But, the consenus seems to be that it's to risky to offer an eite player a lot of money and term
LA GM Dean Lombardi fresh off his Cup win is getting ready to line up to push hard to try and sign Zach Parise, when the clock starts on free agency. Apparently not willing to rest on his laurels of recent success always eager to improve his team.

Stanley Cup in hand, Los Angeles Kings eye free agent Zach Parise

Less than a three weeks after completing their stunning run to the NHL championship, the L.A. Kings enter the free-agent market with a recruiting tool they've never had before: The Stanley Cup.

The ramifications of their Stanley Cup championship and its impact on the free-agent market will be tested for the first time starting Sunday. NHL free agency starts at 9 a.m. (PDT) and the courtship of New Jersey Devils captain Zach Parise is expected to be at the top of the Kings' list.

Making a hard push for the telegenic leader makes sense on many levels. The Kings have just enough cap room and a pressing need for scoring on the left side.

Meanwhile Leafs GM is taking some personal time off to enjoy a parade, seemingly content with Leafs current situation. Leaf Nation is in good hands indeed.

You would think the situation would be the other way around and the desperate GM working the phones making every effort possible to improve his team.. Different strokes for different folks.

Not if he saved him on July 1st when he should have been at work...

Why would he save Mess kids from a building? He should be glued to his desk 24 hours a day regardless of family. There's no I in team, but there is in intervene.

If Parise and his agents can't schedule a meeting around the parade (they are doing the same Schultz style presentations) then who the hell wants him on our team.

Curious Mess, which UFA's could Burke Sign who you won'tt complain about? Or are you unwilling to go out on a limb and tell us, allowing you to complain about whoever it is anyway?

Here's all the names. Which players will you be happy if Burke signs?

Curious Mess, which UFA's could Burke Sign who you won'tt complain about? Or are you unwilling to go out on a limb and tell us, allowing you to complain about whoever it is anyway?
I'm curious as well , is there anything that Burke does that you won't defend ?

My kid is a diehard Leaf fan like myself..

He probably wouldn't have run into the burning building in the first place (requiring saving), by trying to end it all rather than face more misery of his Leaf Nation disappointment, if the Leafs GM was busy announcing he had just signed Zach Parise and Marty Brodeur and not claiming he is taking time off and needs to attend a parade instead.

Just stop with the "defend" crap. It's flaming and very annoying.

Tell me Hotpaws, what is he doing wrong by spending an hour at the gay pride parade?

Nothing at all is wrong with the gay pride parade. Clearly, very few people care that he's attending that parade.
The issue is that he's skipping out of his work on the most important day of the year for his job!

I reiterate... there are many other ways/times that he can show his support of the gay community.
Just go to ****ING work on the most important day of your job.

Of all the wrong moves the Senile Fox made during his time(s) as GM here, the Finger signing was obviosuly one of the very worst.

What would you like him to do at work tomorrow?

Personally, I hope he makes a big offer to Suter and Parise, and I see no issue with him going to the parade, letting nonis et al take care of business for an hour and be available by phone of needed.

I hope he doesn't make a single offer to a single player other than Suter and Parise. We already know Parise is doing the dog and pony show in Mississauga, so there's no pressing matter there. And Suter is likely doing the same, and if not will be signed long before the parade starts.

That and scorching the earth to the point where nothing could be salvaged. An argument could be made that trading up for Luke was terrible too, but I don't see the point as that is a long time in the past and Burkie fixed that just last week. There are others but they are also in the past so I let them go and try not to fixate on marginal mistakes like Frogren and Hollweg. It really doesn't advance the discussion , you know.

Flaming ? I asked you pretty much the same type of question you asked Mess and now all of sudden you're annoyed . Maybe you should answer the question instead of deflecting and being annoyed when someone calls you out .

There's more events than just the parade and Burke could have attended one of those that didn't conflict with the start of the UFA period .

Time will tell whether the Schenn situation is truly fixed. I have high hopes for JVR just like everyone else but he's far from a proven commodity. We basically traded potential for potential. Of all the things I think Fletcher should have done differently, I most wish he had given Luke one more year down in the WHL. I know he was physically NHL ready back in 2008, but I don't know if he was mentally or defensively sound enough to handle the tasks he was charged with right from the start of his rookie season. And it may not do any good to dwell on this, but that won't stop me and many other for that matter from doing so.

I don't know fine sir, it would seem that we at the cult of MLSE have the largest and most experienced management group in all of organised hockey. Surely when given a directive, our assistant GM and support staff can hold the fort for an hour or two while Brian puts in an hour of public relations service while fulfilling the actions of his other title, President of MLSE. No?

I don't disagree with any of the development mistakes in regards to Luke. Had he not played in the NHL at 18, he'd have not lost waiver exemption nor priced himself out of being useful to the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey club at such a young age and been allowed to develop in the AHL.

Hopefully when he is developed and reaches his potential in the next 10 years he will be given a chance by our great and storied organisation.

Hopefully when he is developed and reaches his potential in the next 10 years he will be given a chance by our great and storied organisation.
I certainly hope he becomes the defenseman he was projected to be on draft day. If a day comes where he reaches that potential, I'd love to see him back in the blue and white.

I dont doubt his sentiment, but it feels like it is to the point where Burke is just making a point of never doing "hockey ops" stuff on July 1.

It doesn't much matter. The only question he asked me was a flame. He seems to think he asked something else.

Well lets just keep that amongst ourselves cause I know that is surely frowned upon and I wouldn't want a valuable member of this community like paw to have any difficulties here.

With deepest sincerity,

Like i said there are other events than the parade he could choose to attend which wouldn't conflict with his job .
