That's one quick 2nd line, and one very physical 3rd.
Well, I'm thinking for zone-entry purposes. Marleau and Voracek are the two best guys at that in the lineup. Not sure if Semin's any good at it, but he seems the type. And then you have Wingels, Simmonds, and Doan as the F1 types (I think Doan could go back to F1), Thornton, Havlat, and Voracek as the F2 types, and Semin, Marleau, and Couture as the F3 types. Doan, Wingels, ad Simmonds can throw a hit, almost everyone is a good two-way player.

If those things happen, we'd have a surplus of RWs for the first time in the franchise history.

Didn't we have too many back when Bernier and Cheechoo were both good? I know it was brief...

On 2nd thought, maybe we should just see what Robinson adds before we go trading Boyle. It's tempting to get value out of him while we can, but you can't really replace what he brings. His shiftiness keeps the opposition off-balance--he's like a bumble-bee, all over the place without discernible direction, then he stings you.

And who knows what kind of bargain he may be willing to sign if we let this contract play out.

nooooo do not trade boyle... this team needs him RIGHT NOW if we want to win... trading him screws up our D depth and puts too much pressure on Braun/Demers/Murray to perform in the top-4 IMO

although I'm afraid now that DW has missed out on Nash & Weber, and with Doan & Semin looking unlikely, he will pull off a monster trade involving Boyle just to amuse himself and not feel left out

Again, I don't think anyone is proposing trading Boyle without replacement.

Eh, I don't think it'd be too bad. In your hypothetical line-up, you'd get Yandle but lose Pavelski. Having Pavelski and running with a D of

Vlasic - Burns
Stuart - Demers
Murray - Braun
7th D and Pelech

isn't too bad.

That doesn't look too bad on paper, but the worry is obviously what if Stuart and Demers don't rebound?

The Sharks got the Conference Finals with Wallin in the Top-4. They'll make it work.

EDIT: I still have faith in Demers though. Not only did he have a bad off-season (big part due to the injury he got during the post-season), but when he was finally in the line-up, they paired him with White. I thought he played well in the playoffs. Plus it's his contract year.

I agree about Demers. I think he will rebound. But that is a pretty big question mark going into the season if he doesn't, or even if he does. That's a Lidstrom-like load placed on Vlasic and Burns to be perfect.

Well defensively Vlasic's got that down. Just need for Burns to light it up and the two of them combined can be like one Lidstrom. Easy.

If we got Yandle wouldn't he be somewhere on D?

Keith Yandle, right? Plays D for Phoenix?

Is this some sort of "Milan Michalek doesn't have a brother" that played D for Phoenix type joke i've somehow missed out on? He's not "not" talked about as much since he went to the Pens. I kinda miss that.

Yandle plays left D?

Vlassic - Burns
Yandle - Stuart
Murray - Braun/Demers?

notice how i put Braun before Demers?

To get back to the topic. I haven't seen enough of Voracek. Simmonds would be pure gold. Would suck to not have him with Pavs on the third line though...

In the previous scenario, he traded Pavelski+ for Yandle. The D I posted was if the Sharks kept Pavelski, therefore not having Yandle.
Sorry for the confusion.

Oh. that makes sense. Thanks. That message I quoted happned to be the newest unread in this thread so it skipped there. I should have looked back a bit.

Boyle for Simmonds sounds pretty nice. Doesn't seem like Philly wants picks, would be nice to pick up another forward like Matt Read for a pick tho.

Simmonds - Jumbo - Pavs
Couture - Marleau - Havlat
Wingles/Burrish - Desi - Clowe
Burrish/Wingles - Handguns - Galiardi
Sheppard?

Still lookin' a bit thin if one of those guys go down to injury tho.

Yeah, if only we could obtain a second pair of defensemen to combine into Lidstrom.
