Scott Burnside ‏@ESPN_Burnside
Also interesting to note that Ralph Krueger is envisioning Justin Schultz playing alongside veteran Nick Schultz.

Awesome.

Anyone know why Schultz chose #19? Just kinda wierd seeing a defenseman wearing a forward number.. Number 8 would be pretty sweet! IMO.

Larry Robinson was a damn good defenceman () and wore #19. I think it looks good on Schultz.

When the two of them played as a pairing last season, they were beyond terrible.

Hahaha that's funny. Nucks fans were so sure he was going to sign there just for that reason.

After seeing Schultz at his press conference and a few interviews.. I think we can throw all the accusations of 'character problems' out the window. The kid seems very humble, well spoken, and respectful.

Seems like it was a case of his agent saying "Oh hey because of the school thing you can be a free agent in the summer. Go play wherever you want."

Easy decision for a Canadian Kid

Still pinching myself today. What an absolute steal and turning point for the org and for oil fans everywhere. Now the challenge of meeting expectations begins! The fact Kruger was a big factor in the pitch speaks volume about his motivational and communication skills. What a beauty of a weekend!

"I'm more confused than ever now." - Murray on Shultz..

To me that means he didnt expect him to sign with the us, so IMO they dont have anything on Oilers, tampering wise.

June 29th "Justin Schultz is a stud who can not miss prospect who be a top line D-man shortly"

June 30th signs with oiler "Justin Schultz is a prospect or project that has been greatly over hyped"

got those comments from another board who were in the bidding for his services

I think they had a tampering case all see up and ready to go against Toronto, and then Toronto was one of the first ones out...

that is the case I am making the ducks board. I think if he had signed with the Canucks, Leafs or rangers--there would have been tampering charges filed because it is on record that players from all three teams have interacted with Schultz this off season before June 25th

It's humorous just thinking about the veins popping out on Burke's head as the Oilers steal away his big prize yet again. First he wanted both Yakupov and Galchenyuk (and got neither) and then after getting permission from the Ducks to talk to Schultz on draft day, Schultz turns him down and then Burke still meets with the Schultz camp yet again to try to get him and gets turned down yet again... only to watch the Oilers eventually sign Schultz.

Of course Burke has the best player in the world anyway with Rielly so he'll spin a story that he and the Leafs are still big winners.

But it is rumored that Anahiem gave Toronto permission to negotiate a deal with Schultz at the draft. So how can there be tampering?

To give them a better chance of signing Schultz so the tampering case could then be filed.

It could have been a case against Vancouver too, or any other team besides Edmonton.

it became obvious just over a year ago the ducks were not going to be able to sign the kid. Until we know why Schultz did not want to sign with them, all we have is speculation and innuendo

He pretty much said it was simply about taking the choice.

lets say for arguments sake that van did tamper but instead of winning him they just convinced him through the tampering that teams would be interested can the ducks still file against Vancouver?

*NOTE i am not saying that van did tamper just using them for an example*

Teams are to have ZERO contact with players whos rights belong to another NHL team. If there is any fire to the amount of smoke coming from three teams and the suggestion that players from said team tried to influence where Schultz went, the fact that none of those teams ended up with Schultz would have zero influence on the ability of the ducks to file tampering charges against siad teams. The tampering could have adversely affected how Schultz and co would have handled discussion with the ducks.

Example

Say if Schultz did have a problem with how the ducks handled him being in Uni or something and felt they stuck their noses in where it did not belong. Say he had buddies on different teams and those teams sort of asked the players when talking to him, mention how those teams do things differently, If Schultz decides that the info he has received is similier and decides that he now really hated the way the ducks treated him and cut all ties with the team partly based on the info he got from players acting as proxy agents for their home teams, that would still be tampering becuase the information was fed through a third party (players friend) who was acting as proxy agent (for the team) and this had direct adverse affects to the ducks being able to sign their player and lost the asset
