Nuge is now a 9.0B....last year he was an 8.5 C.

If the nuge was 8.5 C, we can be a little tickled over Shultz being an 8.0C.

What will Yak be?
I'll bet 8.5C

Get excited or not, whatever. That said saying that he isn't our top D prospect is premature, his offensive upside is higher than Klefbom's. What's wrong with now having two blue chip D prospects to add to the likes of Smid and Petry?

Well to be fair we didn't have Schultz signed sealed and delivered back then, but we took the BPA at #1, hard to argue with that IMO.

Just a little info regarding the ranking:

"8. No. 2 Defenseman players with definite skill that might be just a cut below elite status, but still possessing All-Star potential.

Defense: Dan Boyle, Duncan Keith, Kimmo Timonen"

When you have a guy like that fall into your lap for nothing it is something to be excited about. With Klefbom & Marincin also ranked the same, that's pretty awesome. If these guys can reach their potential, the back end will be looking pretty sweet.

Lol. The Oilers got soo lucky here. Not only picking up a top prospect for free, but hes such a perfect fit. 6'2 RH offensive dman. Oilers couldnt have asked for a better prospect to come on the market, really.

He scored 2 times as many goals in his sophomore season alone than Petry did in his whole college career. For a team that had Smid lead the Oilers in goals from the backend, a prospect like Shultz is exactly what was needed. NHL ready too.

I doubt Klefbom, Marincin & Schultz will all reach their potential, but if even 1 of them do that will be huge for us down the road.

Ranking numbers? Seriously?

Draw your own conclusions. Hockey is infiinitely complicated and hockey players can't and shouldn't be ranked on a numerical scale with numbers cited as if they mean anything at all.

How completely subjective but people add a number to it along with a decimal point and the information is then assumed to have some actual value..

Replacement: 8.3 value as a poster. That must mean something..

This team will become very very good for many years to come. The pieces are well put together now and they are deep in prospects in the pipeline. I have faith in Dubnyk as our number one goalie. He needs to play more to have confidence. He has solid foundation and now needs a good core of dmen to help him. If Tambellini and the rest of the management team can keep on making shrewd deals especially now with fine UFAs willing to come here, it becomes alittle easier. From what we have read over the past month, looks like Krueger has the right tools to groom this team and shape them to be contenders. I can't wait...

I'm not sure if Schultz is so overrated or Klefbom is so underrrated. Probably a lot of both
Or HF's prospect ranking system is a joke, has been for years, and is not the least bit telling...?

Justin Schultz was 14 on THN's future watch in February, and Klefbom did not rank in the top 50.

I suspect when they "re-rank" at HF, Schultz will be ahead of Klefbom by quite a bit.

I don't know too much about Schultz. I know that he is good offensively but how is he in his own end?

Add to the fact that he'll be 22 years old and just starting his ELC. So, a prospect, but not a young one. Also he won't be a UFA for five years (I think), so his contract situation is very good.
We get him for 6 years, because his birthday is On july 6th and to qualify to be a ufa at the age of 27 you have to be born sometime in June. That can change if the new cba changes that rule

I totally agree with Replacement on the numbering system garbage. That's why I'm waiting for the training camp and year to begin. So I can watch Schultz actually play, and make my own little ranking on him based on my previous experience watching very good NHLers play.

Numbers Shmumbers.

i only use them as a vague starting point when checking out someone I have no idea about. the eye test, and/or actual write ups and scouting report are much better. but the numbers can give you a general idea of what other people might think. just consider them very vague at best.

I am not sure if that is the case. I remember during the draft, Dustin Nielson said he talked to 5 scouts and 4 of them would rank Klefbom ahead of Murray.

Obviously, not scientific but that does say something about Klefbom. So I am not sure if Schultz is miles ahead of Klefbom.

This is not meant to be a defence of the HF numbers system, I really don't pay any attention to it.

Are you sure about the THN ranking? I could swear Scultz was 21 and Klefbom 22.

Klefbom was in the top 50 for sure. Do not have the magazine with me, but 22 sounds right.

Thanks for the suggestion. What a read.

It must really hurt to see Schultz choose a city and team that Canucks fans think so lowly of over the paradise that is Vancouver.

I just went over there and saw that a few other Oiler fans were sifting through that thread at the same time.

Nothing wrong with drinking up the last few remaining tears.

So anybody see what the smart people at a Sport Chek or two did? They have jeserys that say "Shultz" on the back with the number 15. Isn't Nicks name spelled Schultz?
