So who will get the credit and who will eventually be seen as adding nothing to this day of glory? You just know peeps will start to dissect how this happened etc. and who gets props and who gets thrown under the bus.

OK, I give Gretz the pitching win and Coffey the save. Schultz is an Oiler.
Oh, bravo, Kuzma. Bravo.

You know, in a roundabout way, Schultz signing with us is some sort of karmic justice. After Pronger demanded a trade and won a cup with Anaheim in 2006, Schultz decides to shun Anaheim and chooses of all teams, the Oilers. Also, Anaheim used the 43rd overall pick on him in 2008, coincidentally the pick we gave up to Anaheim for our offer-sheet to Dustin Penner.

I hope Vancouver fans won't be too harsh when we play them in the first game of the season.

It'll be so disrespectful if they boo.

I want them to boo. Maybe Schultz will develop a severe hate-on for his hometown team.

I think it's time to right two more wrongs.

Sign Parise tomorrow.
Trade for Lucic.

Wouldn't surprise me. They don't even want to retire the jersey of the greatest player to ever play for them in Pavel Bure...apparently he doesn't have the character of a Stan Smyl. For a team that's never won it all during their entire existence, the fanbase sure is cocky....heck even the Oilers honored Fuhr after his off ice issues.

Tell me about Justin Schultz

(This thread is meant strictly for discussion about Schultz on the ice, analyze the kid as if he has always been a part of the Oil prospect pool).

Hockeyfutures has him ranked the #25 prospect (right behind Ryan Ellis, also well behind Runblad for that matter). The Oilers have a D-prospect also ranked ahead of Schultz, Klefbom at #21.

Yet posters on these board seem to have the sentiment that Schultz is better than that. Can any Wisconsin fans chime in on his play? Why did he not play in any of the WJCs?

Seems to be a pretty legit blue-chip prospect:

NHL Desjardins equivalent of ~40+ points based on his last season.

2007-2008 BCHL (Interior) Best Defenseman
2008-2009 BCHL (Interior) Best Defenseman
2009-2010 NCAA (WCHA) All-Rookie Team
2010-2011 NCAA (WCHA) Defensive Player of the Year
NCAA (WCHA) First All-Star Team
NCAA Top Collegiate Player "Hobey Baker Award" Finalist
2011-2012 NCAA (WCHA) Defensive Player of the Year
NCAA (WCHA) First All-Star Team
NCAA (West) First All-American Team
NCAA Top Collegiate Player "Hobey Baker Award" Finalist

Two First All-star team and Defensive Player of the Year nods and perennial Hobey Baker finalist.

Good size, etc.

Thoughts on Schultz on the ice?

Coffey didn't exactly leave on good terms either and he's now helping us recruit players

It is amazing how cocky the Canucks fan base is as a whole. They just have this sense of entitlement. Even the reporters do. Anyone listen to Oilers Now yesterday or the day before. A Vancouver reporter was saying he thought it was the Canucks all along...and he didn't even realize how arrogant he sounded.

They just talk like it's a fact. "Good players want to play for the Canucks and they don't want to play for the Oilers. So when we go head to head, it's a given that the Canucks are going to come out on top".

Now Canucks fans are justifying the rejection by assuming Gillis wouldn't guarantee him a roster spot and that's the only reason he's an Oiler...and he's a spoiled brat for not signing with the Canucks.

Congratulations Oiler fans !You folks are building a fine young hockey club up there ! I am a big Flyers fan, but i do not let that get in the way of appreciating the way your club is working its way back toward the top tier of the NHL.....Good luck !

Even if it takes him awhile I'm happy.
Read Vans board reaction.

It just feels sooo good to stick it to those mouthy clowns.

@benkuzma @sportsnetspec Uh, make that West Kelowna kid. Even with Van deal, Schultz couldn't afford West Van.

The Ducks board is great right now. Some posters want Getzlaf to physically hurt him in October. They obviously haven't watched many Ducks games the last few years, because Getzlaf flat out doesn't care. And they are busy trying to run Ryan out of town at the same time. Perry and Selanne can't carry an entire team...

Not like it matters, no one shows up to games until baseball and football are finished anyways...

Thank you ! Homer gets a lot of Flak down here, but i like the club he has built, and cannot complain much about our clubs playoff chances each year.....not much more you can really ask for as a hockey fan.

Exactly. He'll get some booing, but this story really isn't a big deal outside of hockey message boards.
