Exactly what I said would happen.

Why don't people listen to me more often?

I see the oilers trading for more D help but definitely going to be trading a D in that package,

Realistically we are keeping
Schultz
J Schultz
Whitney
Smid
Petry

on D

Meaning one of Sutton or Potter is gone probably with a young forward for D help

Would have been nice to have him on the Canucks, but let's be real here: he had just as good a chance playing for the Chicago Wolves this year as he did with the Canucks. By signing with the Oilers he has basically ensured himself 925k min for the next two seasons. Can't blame a kid for not wanting to turn down 1.8mil opposed to possibly earning 180k.

Matt Gilroy's 21 year old season: Boston University 36 GP, 2 G, 6 A, 8 P
Justin Schultz's 21 year old season: Wisconsin 37 GP, 16 G, 28 A, 44P

Not to mention Schultz was a 2nd round pick where as Gilroy went undrafted. I don't agree that these two players are comparable.

Comparable players would be IMO:

Jake Gardiner
Brendan Smith
Ryan McDonaugh
Jamie McBain
Matt Carle

None of them are franchise D but I would take any of them on the Oilers right now.

I don't think that's fair. He's younger with more upside. But the Oilers need more help, otherwise I honestly believe first-line combos like the Sedins will carve him up. Not great for a player's development if he doesn't have a couple veterans to help him along.

Absolutely thrilled to see Schultz sign in Edmonton. Now the Oilers have added two NHL ready prospects in a short span of time.

With this signing and yakupov potentially playing in the show, where do oiler fans see their team finishing next year?

Congrats, Oiler fans.

I gotta say i was hoping to add a quality prospect to the Canucks, but I can see the sense in his decision to sign with the Oil.

Best of luck to him. Screw the Oilers ;P

Probably 9th or 10th.

We still need more than Yakupov and Schultz to make us a playoff team.

Whole lot of ifs for a d-core there. I would cool it with the dynasty talk.

The Oilers are far from a dynasty.

9th-11th, playing some meaningful hockey down the stretch.

If the stars allign, then maybe a playoff berth.

I expect some pretty entertaining hockey, but still one year out from being a playoff squad.

What I understand they want to keep Peckham, he brings that grit the other don't have. Potter will be the odd man out, with the possibility of Whitney being trade during some course of the season.
