That picture was taken July 13...

http://translate.google.com/translat...le-surpoids%2F

As King Woodballs stated, Buff appeared comparatively much slimmer in recent photos. That current Byfuglien thread on the main HF NHL page is garbage and represents an exercise in player bashing, IMO.

Lol I wouldn't get so worked up about it. We've seen more recent pictures where he's looked slimmer anyway.

It's pathetic that he was ever in that type of shape. That guy frustrates me to no end.

Seems to be an annual thing - rumors/suggestions that Buff is out of shape, only to show up to training camp in decent shape (for Buff) and play pretty well.

That said, he could improve his fitness. IMO, his poor conditioning was part of the reason for his knee injury last season.

Trolls gotta troll, I suppose. Maybe Buff should start wearing slimming garments or quit with the side profile pics.

Just for kicks, if Kane had to be dealt, would anyone take Johansen and a 1st from Columbus? Just saw on twitter that he's up to 6'3", 216 lbs and "feels really quick on his feet". He quietly had a decent rookie season on a terrible team last year and the first could be really early.

Edit - I should have put this in the Kane thread.

At some point Buff will have to work harder on his conditioning. Eventually this will catch up on him and may end up shortening his career. I don't think he is terribly out of shape (kind of Phil Esposito like in the 70's), just in comparrison to most of today's players it is quite noticable.

Its crazy to think Buff can play 20 plus minutes in the NHL out of shape. If this guy was in shape could he play 35 minutes

How Buff goes from well over 300lbs to decent shape in a matter of months baffles me...

Clearly it's the sturgeon fishing. Jumping in the water and catching the fish with your bear hands, wrestling them in to submission and feasting on their lean protein and omega acids. Gets people in to shape in no time.

He's a professional athlete. If he busts ass, eats right and all that you can drop that much weight no problem in three months. I did it on basic training, and I ate like ****.

The guy is 6'5", 250lbs on him is going look like he's pretty trim.

I doubt he lost a hundred, considering that Seabrook(next to him is 225). But 250, 240...sure and given how big he is snd how he is built that's fine.

That pic is legit guys. I actually watched the Dave Bolland wedding video it was from and it's the same picture. Having said that you can tell the picture is stretched as Seabrook looks chubby as well and he is not.

EDIT: To further prove the wide angle explanation, check out the guys hand on the far right of the pic on buddy's shoulder.

Case closed

KW also makes a valid point that the pic of Buff from the fishing trip makes him look much fitter. The camera angle there probably flatters him a little.

The truth is somewhere in the middle. I sure hope that it is on the slimmer side of the middle. We will find out for sure when he comes to Winnipeg. I for one will be choked if he is in poor shape. It shows great disrespect to the org and his position on the team IMHO. It also says a lot as to what his ceiling will be as an NHL player.

I'm sure he just had some salty snacks at the wedding and wasn't drinking enough water.

In the absence of anything else to talk about, it is nice to again see articles showing an increased number of players back in town...

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/spo...169280736.html

Note that Telegin is in one of the pictures. I'd personally really like to see either Telegin or Scheifele (or the both of them for that matter) surprise and make the team out of camp - whenever that occurs.

Given the money these players make, they have an obligation to stay in the best shape they can so they can be the best they can when playing for their teams. If Buff's ideal playing weight and general shape is outside the norm, I'm fine with that, as long as it doesn't hurt the team.

If the coaches make it apparently clear to him that he is expected to play X number of minutes per game and he can do that being heavier than most, fine, but if he can't meet those expectations, he needs to get in better shape so he can. I think what frustrates a lot of fans is the perception that Buff is wasting potential by being perceived as being out of shape.

Like I said... As long as he doesn't hurt the team and his nickname of Buff isn't short for Buffet... all is good.

Tyler Seguin apparently signed an extension worth 5.75 over 6 years. That seems to be the go-to cap hit for the young RFAs. Should push Kane somewhere around 5.5 or so, I think.

I would be ok with this, but not a whole lot more. Even if it was more money, but back loaded so he makes more money as he develops I'd be ok with.

Just refreshed my memory regarding the "Tkachuk to Atlanta" trade. Man did we/Atlanta get hosed. 2 first round picks (one of which was conditional and never happened), a second, a third, and glen metropolit. Then the following year Tkachuk goes back to St.Louis, the same team that traded him to Atlanta.

I lost respect for Tkachuk after that one. I'm glad he didn't re-sign in Atlanta. Then we would of had to relinquish that conditional first rounder to St.Louis. Geeze, the management it Atlanta was weak to say the least.

I wasn't even following hockey at that time, but that trade may be one of the worst that any management has done. The McDonagh trade is leagues worse than the Tkachuk trade, though.
