Realistically, what can Detroit offer Parise that Pittsburgh can't?

Lots! From money, heritage (original six and hockeytown), to playing for the best management, hockey minds, and coach in the game...

I think Red Wings have over $23 million left in cap space to spend after signing their backup today.

Already over 400 wins, gold medal, only coach in history to be in triple gold club, etc.

Man, this is my favorite thing I see in these threads. As if players actually make these kind of decisions on fans, who are fickle and impulsive in every city. Or that somehow you're part of a very special breed of fans, somehow superior to the rest of the league. Or heritage, as if that matters. Wouldn't everyone be signing with the Habs, or Leafs?

The decision is money first, roster and coach second, nothing else.

Two players that are in the caliber of no one on the Detroit roster?

Off the top of my head - and a possibly very underrated attribute - playing style?

Parise has publicly gushed over how much he admires Detroit's style of play and that Pavel is his favorite player to watch.

Right. Because Datsyuk wasn't voted the second best player in the league by his peers this season, lol.

Crosby and Malkin are fantastic hockey players and I have no problem admitting that as a Wings fan. Why is it so hard for you to say that Pavel and Hank (the guy that helped negate Crosby in 2008) are among the games best?

Maybe 10 years ago. Seem to be older and on the down slope.

Yup, another important factor. There was interviews of Parise talking about how amazing Detroit's style is and how Datsyuk is magical to watch every shift he takes.

People laugh now, but don't discount the little things that matters that other teams can't offer.

Money is said to be the #1 priority, but I don't think this is correct. Parise is getting paid no matter where he goes...

I'm sure lots of owners can dish out a $25 million sign on bonus on a whimm. It comes down to management, coaches, playing styles, future, and a team that is proven to have impeccable cap management. That describes Detroit.

Love Datsyuk and Zetterberg was certainly special. But neither are currently in the tier of Crosby and Malkin and neither will be playing at the level of Crosby and Malkin over the term of Parise's deal.

Flyers have offered Parise and Suter 10 year deals, no word on the money.

Let Crosby play a full injury free season again, then talk. For all we know, he will probably end up being the next Lindros.

Probably for the same reason you talk crap about Mario, Bylsma and Shero.

Sucks, but it's true. Crosby will have a career of concussion issues that might end his career sooner than later. That's a risk I'm sure Parise will be considering.

Just because they aren't putting up 115 points a season doesn't mean that they aren't above Crosby and Geno in other ways (two-way play, leadership, etc). I agree that Crosby and Malkin will be among the top 3 players in the world for the next 7-10 years, but for now you have to include Datsyuk in that discussion with them. That's all I'm saying.

We could go back in forth on this all day but I doubt either of us will budge haha. At the end of the day though, Parise has made it public how much he admires Pavs and how much he respects the way Detroit plays...I haven't seen or heard him say similar things about the Pens.

I can see your ***** from here. Datsyuk & Zetterberg's two-way play can't be matched by Crosby & Malkin.

I didn't talk crap about the Pens trio at all. I just said that Shero and Bylsma aren't HOFers (yet) as Holland and Babcock are. I have all the respect in the world for Super Mario and how he saved the Penguins.

Again, all I said was that Shero and Bylsma don't measure up to the track record of Holland and Babcock.

With that kind of thinking did you you think that possibly Zetterberg might have to retire in a couple of years just because the game has really passed him by?
