Well, I can't say any of us would go this far, but Devils fans are with you on the sentiment though. None of us want to see him go to the Penguins. It would be a pretty crappy move for him to say that he would never sign with the Rangers, and then turn around and sign with another team in the division.

I agree, this dog and pony show is unnecessary. No idea why they go for spectacle like this.

its just for the benifit of the agent. I have always felt agents are leeches.

Of course they are, but this is a bit much even for them.

Hey I would be kinda mad if Parise and Sutter both go to Pits. It would be NHL's heat. I would like Parise to go to Min to help them cuz their fans are awesome and deserve more.

As per @Real_ESPNLeBrun. Zach Parise will decide by 10am in terms of officially testing the market. Obviously, still a chance he stays in NJ

I hate to say it but after Richards this appears to be the norm. Now I can see lesser players being given this treatment so they feel special and think gee my agent rocks!! or in an awesome world the GM's say F you and don't play the game.

LMAO Wow. So easy, a caveman can do it. Geniuses all. I wonder what kind of rigorous educational regimen you have to endure to obtain such an acute understanding of the primary engine behind choosing a destination for employment when arriving upon unrestricted free agency.

The money is going to be beyond sufficient to live off of for the rest of his life. A million, here, a million there.... The money is not going to be the deciding factor. At all. Everyone pitching this guy is going to throw a ton at him. His decision will be based on other factors such as his raw desire to play in a given market, proximity to family, environment conducive to raising a family, market pressure (or lack thereof), strength of team's front office, which leads to the obvious item...ability to make a run at multiple Stanley Cups.

The question is, which of those things are most important. I guarantee those will be the vehicle behind his decision, and not the money. Same with all high profile free agents. It's only the guys making lower/mid salaries where a discrepancy in offers between two clubs, on a % basis, can lead to money being the driving force. Still, free agency is as much about being able to choose your employer, place to live, and so many other things, as it is the money.
I have to believe that money IS the issue. I don't think any player in Parise's position says "6 mill, 8 mil..whats the difference? It's more money than I ever need either way." You go in to today with expectations and anything less is a disappointment.

You guys will have to go on my word for this, but I'm fairly confident this "news" leaked through Allan Walsh (@walsha).

I say this because just as this tweet came out, @D_LEED (who also writes for TFP) tweeted something along the lines of "Just got your DM, @walsha, oh boy." The tweet was almost immediately deleted.

Walsh isn't an agent for Newport Sports, he's part of Octagon.

The kicker in all this? Walsh's tweets from yesterday:

I already knew this guy is a total *******. Any Caps fan who has paid attention to his agents and the team know what I'm talking about. But now we can add "huge hypocrite" to the list. You can decide how much you're willing to trust his word - personally I wouldn't even consider it.

After all what? Nobody else has negotiated with him. It's only Penguins fans who are so damn sure he's coming there.

I was more making the point that after all this discussion and debate he just re-signs, would be annoying.

...that would be anti-climatic. The most interesting thing than can happen in sports during the off season is fans hating a player 1 minute after they loved him. We should not be deprived.

I'd rather see him sign in NJ then join the Pittsburgh heat.

Agreed. I think it would ruin the day as well, any free agents that sign are interesting (to me at least) but I want to see what happens with Zach.

I think what he was going for was - Can you stop acting [like] he is [going to sign in Pittsburgh].

I said I hope he does. I said I think there's a good chance he signs in LA

Pens have as good a chance as anybody. That is, not great.

So can we assume the Devils are off the list now? Didn't Parise say he would decide by 10 am whether to resign with them or to test the waters elsewhere?

No. Even if he makes it to noon and tests the waters, he could definitely go back to NJ. Heck, NJ might even up their offer to keep him once they see what others are willing to do.
