PHI: Oskars Bartulis; NJ: Eric Boulton [Both Being Bought Out]

Per McKenzie

Quote:
Oskars Bartulis (PHI) and Eric Boulton (NJD) as well as Armstrong (TOR) on unconditional ($125) waivers for buyout purposes.
So, the buy-out list is at

Mike Santorelli (Maybe)
Matt Bradley
Derek Joslin
Colby Armstrong
Oskars Bartulis
Eric Boulton

Surprised at Bartulis, unless he was fed up with being in the AHL, seems like a rather minor contract for Philly to pay for in the AHL.

Bart.. One funny guy on twitter. Sad that he didn't pan out. Injury prone.

Holmgren always has an offseason wish list. He probably wanted the contract space in order to sign a #4-5 defenseman for 4 years at $5 million per or to trade a top-6 forward we just locked up for a decade for three younger guys.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have parted ways with forward Colby Armstrong.

The team decided to buy out the final year of his contract, worth $3 million. He will be placed on unconditional waivers at noon et today.

The buyout will count for $1 million towards the team's salary cap over the next two seasons. The move frees up an additional $2 million for the team heading into free agency July 1, giving them $14.8 million in available cap space.

The 29-year-old forward had been plagued by injuries throughout much of his stay in Toronto, having been limited to just 79 games over the past two seasons.

Armstrong reacted to the news swiftly on his Twitter account, tweeting: "Thanks to the leaf nation for the support over the last couple seasons. Although I had tough luck thanks for everything."

He scored nine goals and added 17 assists and 47 penalty minutes in his two seasons as a Leaf.

Originally drafted in the first round (21st overall) by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2001, Armstrong has played 439 career NHL games between the Penguins, Maple Leafs and Atlanta Thrashers, scoring 87 goals and 117 assists.

Kinda surprised Boulton's being bought out. The Devils re-signed Janssen. Hard to believe they wouldn't just keep Boulton over him. If either falters, send them down. Boulton was on waivers though last season IIRC and cleared, however he remained on the team and wasn't demoted. So maybe not so surprising afterall.
