I'd imagine Laich would have to be included.

I'd do it, bank the cap space this year if no top pairing LD is attainable, and aim to reunite the RPG line next summer.

You could throw me on the top line with Ovechkin-Backstrom and that would still be the best top 6 in hockey.

Why do people want to trade, aka open more holes, for our final hole, when there are options in FA and we have a ton of cap space?

If we could build a deal around Green for Ryan I'd do it in a heartbeat. Then sign a random RD and fix the d for real at the deadline.

I guess this is the issue with dealing with the Ducks now and Bruce being the coach there. Its a thing of who he would want to reunite with out there...would he press for Green in a deal or would he rather have Laich or someone else. Its an interesting dynamic since Ryan would really look good on that 2nd line with Ribeiro and Brouwer.

Parise, Semin, Kostitsyn... 3 good options to fix our 2nd line winger hole.

And we have the money to sign any one of them.

Parise isnt going to get the same money here we would somewhere else. It's not happening.

Semin...no.

Kostitsyn...hell no.

So Semin for five years and $35 million, Kotstitsyn who is no better than Johansson, or Parise who we will be competing with 15 other teams for. Great plan.

I'd rather Semin or Kostitsyn for free than opening up more holes.

We're one winger away. They don't have to be a Bobby Ryan now that we have Ribeiro.

It's the same exact ****ing team as last year. What don't you get??? Take away Semin and add Ribeiro makes the second line worse talent wise. So essentially it's the same team with a worse second line. So please tell me where this magical offensive improvement is coming from? Don't even say with Backstrom and Green healthy because we had them in the playoffs and still lost like always.

McClemment? Would have looked killer on the 3rd line

Plan A: Sign Parise
Plan B: Trade for Ryan
Plan F: Trade for Hemsky

If Semin is willing to take 2/3 years at 5.7-6 per after finding the market not as good as he thinks, would anyone take him back or roll with Ovechkin/Backstrom/Johansson Laich/Ribeiro/Brouwer and possibly Kostitsyn/Hudler somewhere in there?

Absolutely.

Although I must say, I was really looking forward to Semin going to a team with better reputation amongst refs, seeing his hooking calls plummet without any change in his play, and hearing the TSN talking heads go on about how disciplined he had become, and how great the coaches in said city were. I was hoping NYR, Pitt, or Carolina.

What about trading for a W? Among Ws with contracts exp. in 2013: Ryder, Filppula, Cleary, MacArthur.

If you don't see the improvement going from an inconsistent winger to a more consistent center with better production, then you just don't get hockey, apparently.

Well sure A as hell isn't happening. Not a chance in hell GMGM will part with what's needed to land Ryan. Once Philly is out on Parise you can bet damn well they will go hardcore after Ryan.

Detroit is the team you're looking for. Can you imagine Pierre gushing every week over how Datsyuk and Babcock and Yzerman and Gordie Howe molded him into one of the best two-way players in the league?

As was I. Detroit works too...not for the penalties in particular, but it would be interesting to watch everyone scramble to adapt the narrative. If he doesn't sign here, I hope he goes to Detroit and wins the Conn Smythe on Datsyuk's wing, or something. I will post pictures of him holding it every day here.

I can't wait for Parise and Suter to sign just so we can see what the F is up with the rest of the market.

I would love Filppula, but I don't want any of the others.
