You love yourself some straw men. How much did the 21 goal scorer on the wing do for his linemates?

Not enough, which is why it makes sense to improve upon it rather than just bring the same problem back under a different position

From what I've seen of him, Ribeiro generally hogs the hell out of his shifts, gets his linemates pissed, his coach pissed, gets pissed about it and then goes on a 3-4 game rampage to prove them wrong before going back to it. If people don't like it when Semin tries to do too much and falls on his face we're gonna have some interesting threads this year.
My problem with Semin has always been the stupid ****ing offensive zone penalties and his disappearing act in the playoffs when the series was on the line.

From all accounts, if Riberio's faults are long shifts and not the **** Semin did or didnt do...I can deal with that. And if Oates can get those shifts shorter...then I can really deal with that.

Oates or no coach can fix the ******** Semin does or doesnt do.

And could easily become 25. You don't stick two grinding forwards with a great set up man like Ribs and expect a 20 assist increase.

Top 5 in the NHL in ESG//60 and top 30 in ESP/60 last season. Also played on a line with Ribeiro for most of the season.
Stalberg's ESG/60 numbers are also pretty good (top 30).

Someone who's averaged ~top 100 forward production (i.e., fringe-1st liner production) over the course of 6 seasons is a 'grinding forward'?

We've been watching Semin for too long I guess. Just because he doesn't make his linemates better doesn't mean that better players than him don't either.

I'll say this now, if we let Semin leave and don't get a real RW to replace him then on top of that we stick Ribeiro with Brouwer and Laich, you can forget even making the post season.

Give Ribeiro someone who can score and this will be fun.

Its like dealing with a bunch of Semin clones who just look back at you and stare...and then point to a picture of Semin.

Proposal:

Green (RFA, ~$5.5-6M range)
Laich ($4.5M, five years)

for

Ryan ($5.1M, three years)
Beauchemin ($3.5M, three years)

It hinges on the perceived value of Green, of course. That perception varies widely.

Yeah. That just refers to their playing style / the type of game they play. Laich has more skill than most grinders, obviously, and is a productive grinder, but he's still a grinder. Mike Knuble was a grinder for his entire career.

Yes and a Semin-Ribeiro-Laich line would be a hell of a second line.

Zach Parise is a grinder. Shane Doan is a grinder. Dustin Brown is a grinder.

You know as well as I do that he was implying the 'grinding forward' lacks the skill to produce.

Naturally, we'd be all ****ing over that.

However, the Dukes just signed Souray(overpriced, oft injured PP QB) and...that trade blows for them.

I just want to enjoy my caps hockey again, i want ovi to be ovi, nicky to be nicky, and our offense to CLICK like it used to. F'ing Dale and his win by 1 goal tactic stalled the s*it out of this team offensively.

This team now knows what it takes to win tough gritty playoff games so if you give them the offensive confidence again then anything is possible with number 8 and 19.

I like the change of scenery deals. Only Semin is walking for nothing. If he was a problem all along, we should have traded him for someone else's problem long ago. See if the new team works better.

Some have suggested just using Semin's cap space will improve our team. Even if it had to be 2 @ 2.5 hard worker types. But what if George does nothing, will we be better?

I would think not. George needs to get moving. Get down there and sell, sell. Crabb has taken Knuble's spot. Is Sjogren going to be our only other new player? Get ready for uptempo notempo.

Parise isn't. Doan is debatable. Brown is. It's beside the point. The issue I have with Laich and Brouwer as the 2Ws is that neither really has the open-ice shot to make the most of opportunities Ribeiro creates. Brouwer has a better shot than Laich, but they're both going to be hitting the goalie's chest far too much. It's not that they're grinders, and I'm fine with one of them on that line.

If you're talking about playing styles, Zach Parise is 100% a grinder.
