I think the Isles have to make a big move to get to the cap floor.

He's a league average #6 Dman who hits & fights. That element alone means he's better than schlubs like Eaton, but in terms of just playing D, yeah he's servicable at best. It's not the type of signing I was hoping for for the back end.

Same thoughts. Nice grit, but not a very good player.

Still haven't seen $$$ on Carkner, but I agree with everyone saying something is still to come. May be today, may be a trade later in the summer. But we're filling roster spots without spending enough money, so something will have to happen.

The three years did it, doubt that anyone else was offering that.

Not a fan of the signings. Boyes for only one year at 1 mill is stomachable. But, Carkner is garbage. He is barely a 6, and now we have him for 3 years. Not happy.

Wow....we....actually have a top-6 that doesn't look like it's made of tissue paper:

Hamonic - Streit
MacDonald - Visnovsky
Carkner - deHaan/Donovan

Not bad, Snow....not bad at all.

Don't see how anyone could be unhappy with the Carkner signing, he fills a 5-6 D-man need and, most importantly, brings an element of toughness that this team hasn't had since we had Konopka and Gillies in the line up. Personally, I have been most sick and tired of how much of a cup cake line up we had and I'm extremely happy we finally have a guy with size who can beat the **** out of someone if its called on.

everyone complaining about carkner being a #6 at best must have forgot about our #9,10,11 defense of eaton, jurcina, mottau last year!

Carkner may be useful if the Islanders bring up some of their youngsters on defense at various times during the year. It's good to have a big nasty guy protect some of the kids.

Vis will probably play with Streit. There's no reason to breakup MacDonald and Hammer.

Streit - Visnovsky
MacDonald - Hamonic
Carkner - Donovan (probably)

I'm impressed!

Carkner is not a joke.
He is not a top pair d-man, but he ads an element to the team that everyone was looking for, and shores up the blueline even more to allow youth to develop in AHL.

He ads size and toughness 2 things every Islander fan (even the ones moaning and groaning right now) wanted. Would you rather have Trevor Gillies here or Matt Carkner? Carkner replaces Gillies and can certainly play better and more important minutes then Gillies and everyone has said Carkner is a solid guy in the room.

I have zero issues with either signing right now.

Nothing wrong with Carkner in a bottom pairing role, as long as the rest of the D is sound. The best team the Islanders had in the last 18 years had Eric Cairns in a similar role. Carkner is a better defensman than Cairns was.

Vis will definitely NOT play with Streit, it would be dumb if they did, no offense.
