Yes that was 5 years ago though in his prime. Im not bashing boyes at all, at $1 mil its a low risk high reward move. I just don't want garth to feel like he got an offensive player who will make a huge difference on this team, which he absolutely thinks, and not make anymore moves for true actual top 6 performers. That being said, this is not an equal replacement for PAP.

We are arguing over the fact that Haley a 26 year old tough SOB who can actually play the game was let go for Eric Boulton who is 36 and a washed up enforcer who's hockey skills are much worse then Haley's.

I would not be complaining at all if Prust was Haley's replacement since he's an obvious upgrade over Haley, but letting Haley walk for a 36 yearold washed up enforcer who cant play a lick is what is puzzling.

Haley can play the PK and chip in a few goals hear and there.
Haley also had 23 and 25 points his last 2 years in the AHL.
He also missed close to 43 games in Bridgport due to being called up to the Islanders.
He would have had more points if he did not miss 43 games due to call-ups.
To those saying he cant play a lick is BS and haters just being uninformed. Haley plays the PK and PP during last year in the Bridge. He is not some "Garbage" player some of you are making him out to be.

Like I said if Haley was replaced by Prust I would be real happy with that replacement but Boulton at 36? Why not just keep Haley, he is better then Boulton.

No, that was the average of the 6 seasons prior to last year.

Before last season he had 56, 42, 72, 65, 46 and 69 point seasons

Don't any of you guys check stats?!

Only last year was a dissapointment where he had 23 points in 65 games. But he did that playing center on the 3rd/4th line. His ATOI dropped from 18 to 13.

Brad needs to get top 6 and PP minutes, and he needs to play RW. give him that and there's little doubt in my mind he reverts to 50-60+ point form.

sorry i meant the 43 goal season was 5 years ago. I hope to god he pans out well, but I feel like PAP is the better player at this point. In his first 2 full seasons, on our pretty ****** team, hes put up 50+ points. Hes in his prime now, I don't see how you don't offer him money.

But **** happens right. Now go get a real #1 line winger

Brad Boyes, on average scores more goals per season than PaP ever has. Brad Boyes averages close to 60 points per season, that's over a 7 year career and not playing with Tavares.

Brad Boyes is not only better than PaP, he's a more sure thing. Just give him a chance.

Thats what I am saying Haley can actually play for a 4th line tough guy.

Since no one has answered the question I'll ask again.
Considering the age of both players and Haley being the much better hockey player how does it make sense to let Haley walk only to replace him with Boulton?

I would not be complaining at all if Prust was Haley's replacement since he's an obvious upgrade over Haley, but letting Haley walk for a 36 yearold washed up enforcer who cant play a lick is what is puzzling.

Like I said if Haley was replaced by Prust I would be real happy with that replacement but Boulton at 36? Why not just keep Haley, he is better then Boulton not to mention 10 years younger who can still improve his overall game.

We play an enforcer at rivalry games. Last year it was Haley, next year will be Boulton, the year after that will be someone else. Haley, Gillies, Rechlicz, Steve Webb, Godard, Konopka: they all fill essentially the exact same role (while occasionally bringing other elements to the table, like Konopka's faceoffs and veteran leadership) and I can guarantee you on July 1st, 2013, the Islanders can sign some other enforcer. It's really not a position to fret about, and considering how easily getting punched in the head really hard can lead to concussions, it's a good thing not to commit extra years to any enforcer.

Do you really think he is an answer for Tavares though? We can put a string of 50 to 60 point players with him and get similar results but it doesn't help Tavares, and it doesn't improve the first line in general. A better thought is to pair him with a real 1st line wing. Boyes is a second liner if you just toss out his worst year.

I know this is not a major move but the more I look at this move it pisses me off even more letting a 26 year-old in Haley who can play the game a little walk for a 36 year old washed up enforcer that cant play. Boulton had 0 points in 55 games last year, thats right I said 0 points for the year.

I dont understand the posters actually defending the move of replacing Haley for Boulton. Makes no sense what so ever. Now letting Haley walk for a guy like Prust is one thing but a washed up 36 yearold enforcer who had 0 points last year I just dont get.

I'd absolutely rather see Haley here than with the Rangers, and I'd rather see Garth bury Reasoner in the AHL than give an FA signing day performance suggesting an intent to let Reasoner give it another shot.

And don't forget, Haley isn't too shabby when he can get a breakaway. Fedorov he's not, but he has a pair of hands that can do more than wallop an unlucky opponent into submission.

I'm hoping that Carkner becomes a bit of a leader; he's signed for three seasons and maybe he and Boulton can "hold the line." I'm starting to wonder if there wasn't some greater dissension between the grittier elements on the roster and ownership and this is Snow's means of swapping out some unhappy parts. I have no clue, but logic suggests there's a motive for letting a younger, quicker, potentially more useful Haley go in favor of a using Reasoner for a #4 C and likely combo of Carkner, Martin & Boulton for fisticuffs.

No disagreement whatsoever. I'd love to hear the motivation behind not resigning Parenteau/the signing of Boyes. I think Boyes may have a chance to exploit the extra ice-time and a pass-happy "approaching-elite/marginally-talented" center, albeit by producing more goals than assists.

I like the signing, but I'd rather have kept Parenteau and made a possible improvement to the 2nd line if the idea is to use Grabner/Nielsen/Okposo as a 3rd line again.

What's Left for Isles to focus on?

Picking up some size and a possible 20-30 goal scorer, as well as an enforcer.
What should the Isles Focus on:
I believe there are a couple of good possiblities for us,
if we can grab 2 more additions and help give us depth and solid play on all 4 lines.
Jiri Hudler, LW DET
Daniel Winnik LW SAN
Olli Jokinen, C - CGY
Klye Wellwood, C - WIN
Andrei Kostitsyn, RW - NAS
MAtt Carle, D - PHI
Carlo Colaiacovo, D - STL
What kind of trades can we do if Bobby Ryan, or Yandle teams are interested?
So far we are looking better then last year on paper. Just 2 more moves...

What if, that's the point. There should be no what if's on a teams first line.

Please give me the list of teams that end training camp with question marks about point production coming from their first line. Any addition to the first line should help the rest of the line, what if instead of Boyes getting 50 points, he gets 20 and drags down Tavares and Moulson?

Because we are not replacing Haley with Boulton because HALEY WASN'T ON THE TEAM hes a bridgeport player!!!!!! He played a few games with us, was horrible took stupid penalties and was sent down where he belongs. I'm not a hater I like Haley he's just NOT an NHL calibre player I'm not uninformed I watch every single game... He's just not good sorry you are wrong get over it.

No one brings up Boulton but you he's a goon/depth guy who might not even make the club outta camp.

Haleys a fan favorite cause of a few fights and is easily replaceable..

There's tons of guys like him in the AHL so don't worry Bridgeport will be covered.

That's a sound list. We still need a 2nd line C and after losing Reese we also need another depth defenseman. I think Boyes is PAP's replacement but if they do the right thing and stick Nino in Bport he needs replacing too, not just on the roster but in cap money too.

I can see the Isles making a pitch for Colaiacovo and possibly Jokinen but that depends on the price. There aren't many other 2nd line C's out there presently so ut'll be interesting to see what they do.

Maybe PA didn't want to stay here? Maybe the Isles knew this (and from all accounts talks broke off a while before 7-1) and targeted Boyes.

People are just attacking Snow and Co to complain. People know that we need a better player on the top line with MM and JT, but yet to listen to people here you would think that PAP was Mike Bossy.

PAP is a 2nd liner and we will try to improve the position. I know, thats crazy, the Isles are trying to improve and make the playoffs this year by improving the 1st line and ordering DP to be the 3rd string goalie. Things are getting better, but people will complain......

Ssshhhhh. Don't tell those people that Haley will still be a AHL player with the rangers, behind Asham who can actually play in the NHL

...but shhhhh its a secret

I loved what he did on 2-11-11, but he did little to nothing else for this entire franchise. People really do need to raise the bar. Shesh.

But he has grit and heart and can score goals fight save puppies and kitties and signed a one way deal!

AHL player was signed directly to play on the whale and emergency start due to injuries.

Listen in all seriousness I would have liked Haley re-signed. He's a solid player at the bridge and a good leader down there. But to actually bug out about A guy whos not even close to an impact player at the AHL level is absurd.

IF he does make the team I'd be utterly shocked if he doesn't get the gillies treatment and sees 99% of his time from the press box or end of the bench.

No playoff team is going into the season witha HUGE question mark on the main scoring line. I'd absolutely love for this to pan out it would be freaking sick but there is a much higher chance that it will not. Exactly like you said what if this blows up and screws up the top line completely.

A team that cannot spend and is a borderline playoff team with post season aspirations cannot afford to give prime positions to ?'s because if/when it implodes there usually is no back up plan.
