I must've broken my cold streak. I've scored 5 goals in the last 2 games. Probably gone 10 games with 1 goal before this.

When it rains it pours.

Got called in by the coach at 6Am, get there with gear and everything...all he wanted to do is talk about the powerplay (I'm not even on, as a defensive defenseman).......and now I'm tired as hell and can't sleep.

Watched a guy go feet first into the ice and break his ankle and aggravate an old knee injury of his last night at practice. And people wonder why I don't take more risks than I already do. It's that whole tempting fate thing.

Bought out the last 6 of HockeyMonkey's Reebok 8K blades in my pattern. Shouldn't have to worry about sticks for a long time.

Tried to pin a guy to the boards in a puck battle. I shoved him with one hand, and that set him off so he slashed me and gave me a dirty look. Must've been the first time something like this happened to me because I generally play a pretty passive game

I bought a Bauer Nexus 400 stick (Backstrom curve) and used it in my first pick up game. I had fun, played a lot of better kids and adults alike, and I feel I left with better skills. The stick however I realized I need and extension on it because I couldn't stick handle very well, though I did score a nice goal and notice a much better release and quickness to my wrister. During warm ups my first wrister went bar down so I was pleased...but that was my expectation everytime after which wasn't good haha

Just curious, if you stand up and hold the stick with the blade on the ground, where does the stick come up to on your body? Chest? Chin? Nose?

Comes to jsut between my chin and nose. But once on skates the toe of the blade is off the ice so I'd need to add a little extra length

If the toe is up it needs to be shorter. Adding an extension will put the blade further away from you and make the toe go higher.

Maybe I'll hold off and just keep practicing with the stick itself. I am coming from a Sherwood Coffey curve and having chosen a Backstrom curve it's a little different so might just be I'm not 100% comfortable with it yet. Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it

Well you can test it pretty easily. Hold the stick in the normal fashion and take note of how the blade rests on the ground. Then you can choke up a few inches and see how the blade would rest with a shorter stick. You could even push it away from you to see how it might rest with an extension. Find that sweet spot and go with that length.

Good deal. I'll have to do that later tonight or something. Thanks again

No blade is flat on the bottom so you actually won't ever have the toe flat on the ice, otherwise the heel is going to be off the ice at times.

I know that what I mean more clearly is with my Sher-Wood with a lie of 5.5 it layed flatter where as the wear and tear of the blade was more even. But today with the new stick and the lie being a 5, the wear and tear was all on the heel of the blade leaving me to believe the toe was barely touching the ice, which caused me to lose the puck more often.

Good point. Bad wording on my part. I guess I meant better balanced between heel and toe, not one or the other off the ice too far.

I scored the winning goal against the second best team in my league. Felt good since my team is near the bottom trying to avoid getting sent down to a lower league.

After spending a couple weeks working on my golf swing, I got back on the ice and had absolutely the hardest wristers I've had yet. One shot from the hash marks managed to ricochet off the top inside bar back out to the faceoff dot and nail one of our guys in the head during warmups. Luckily he's a good sport.

Hips = power. I think all I was doing was opening my hips more to the target and/or leading my shot by pushing/sliding the hips toward the target.

Of course once the game started I couldn't get a clean shot off to save my life and we had no puck luck on my line. Lots of empty net shots after goalie kicked out the rebound but always going wide, or in the glove, or hit a shin, etc.

Thankfully our ringers came through as usual and we won 6-2 and outshot them 49-18 or something ridiculous and will make the "semi-finals" of the "playoffs".

Got knocked out of the playoffs, lost 4-3. We absolutely dominated play but didn't get the breaks. Their 3rd goal was thrown from the corner and off a defenseman's skate who was busy clearing the crease. We also hit six posts, they hit zero.

Thems the breaks. On to the next season.

After holding my own in a B-C level summer league (I'm kinda bottom C, dominating D player), I am fired up again and signed up for the fall adult camp of the Check International Hockey Camp.

6 days / 18 ice practices / Czech beer. Here I come!

Last night, my wife and I discussed the idea of getting our 19-month old son some skates and a helmet as part of his Christmas or birthday (end of January) present. He's pretty solid on his feet; been walking for 5 months, running well for awhile now. Has anyone else had a similar discussion in the past? Good / bad experience? Thanks.

I woke up and realized that my league starts in less than a week, so I went for a quick run and shot 100 pucks against the garage. No0t a serious league, but I don't wanna be completely useless out there (especially since I haven't played an organized game in over a year).

I got my order of two sticks and seven wheels for my new skates...yes, that's right seven, because even though i bought eight of them, the website must have thought i would be able to skate on only seven.

Not today, but I haven't been on in over a week

I played my first women's rep game back last saturday, and scored a goal! Yayyy!

The best part was the goal came off a play we've been working on all season in training, and it's finally all come together.

Took a mini 2 day break from hockey and played golf instead. Got a nice bit of tan and is looking to hit the ice again tonight.
