Managed to skate backwards for most of the practice session. Now if I can learn to maneuver and speed up, I'll be set as a defenseman. (Okay, once I get crossovers down I'll be set. One problem at a time, though.)
Today I got a penalty for hitting in my university's non-hitting intramural leagues (both tiers are non-hitting)
Sent to the sin-bin for basically angling a kid into the boards and making a loud noise. Obviously it was gonna get called because I'm 6'7" and it woke the ref up. Lousy call, cost my team the W too since the other team tied up the game while on the PP.
Rough way to end the game for sure... sometimes it sucks being the tallest kid on the ice. At least we didn't lose.
The bad: Team lost 12-6 :-(.... I played terribly. The 3 goals were garbage and were more a function of me being in the right place at the right time than any form of skill. Skating felt weird (transitions were terrible), stick handling was atrocious and my passing was a bit off.
This was an inline game (ice starts in 2 weeks). Anyone else have issues not being able to feel a roller puck on your stick? I have to keep looking down to make sure it didn't roll off my blade....
My defense skills improved again last night as I deflected two more sure-thing goals away from our net. (Once again, Monday night pickup found us without goalies so I planted myself in the crease when the opposing team was in our zone.)

nice! yeah, in roller I totally had to get used to not feeling the puck as well as ice. Which puck is your league using?
Scored a hat-trick in my beer league, but my RS Stealth got snapped in half
A guy cutting through the middle wiped out as I was going to put pressure on him and he fell right on the stick. Oh well, I've had it for over a year so I got my money's worth. It was still in good condition though so I'm pissed...
I was halfway through my stick and puck session this morning when I started to get so hungry I couldn't concentrate. I didn't feel like going home just yet, so I took off my skates, shoulders and elbows and walked to the next door McDonalds, bought a McMuffin and a couple of large lemonades and broght them back. In my hockey pants and shinpads. You wouldn't believe the looks I got, both at McD's and at the rink when I brought my drinks to the bench!
We used to use those back in my roller days. Are you on sport court? You'll get the feel eventually. Then going back to an ice puck will feel like handling a huge a brick.
I got chatty tonight on the ice. The coach praised me for it since I was directing traffic for the team and giving the guys a little extra motivation when they began to slack off. I also surprised one of the guys I play with regularly with a little extra aggression when fighting him for the puck along the wall. I believe Flyers fans call it "approaching the puck with ill humour."
Today I had my exhibition game for the Intramural league. Went pretty well except only four guys showed up plus me so we had to borrow some players from the other team. Apparently 5 other guys were suppose to show up but they didn't, hopefully they do for next week.
Today I need to email the league commish and tell her that our game last week was not a tie but a win for us. The scorekeeper's computer died when the score was tied with about 7 minutes to go. We scored 3 goals after that for the win but apparently nobody submitted a hand written account of that fact.
We're tied for 1st going 4-0-1. Then again, maybe I won't email the commish. 1st plays gets a 1st round bye. I think I'd rather get that extra game.
I am packing up all my gear, 3 sticks, warm up clothes, 2 towels, training shoes. Fuel the car, check air pressure, motor oil and fluids, cause tomorrow I am leaving for hockey camp. 5.5 days, 16 ice trainings. Eat sleep hockey.
Today I mentally prepare for tomorrow's winter season draft skate. I will start by going to the Orlando Solar Bears home opener tonight. Eat right today is key to a good skate tomorrow.
This was yesterday, but I probably scored one of the sickest goals ever yesterday by going through 3 defenders. Was pretty tweaked!
Also, I buried Kasparitis, (Yes, that Kasparitis) in the boards, and when he went to get me back moments later; I saw him, and hit him to which we both went down, and the skate erupted. I'm no all-star, but it felt good! Nor was he going full-speed. Lol
I found a practically new 9k girdle and shell at PIAS for only $60. I have an X60 girdle that's about a year old, and was already looking to pick up some padded compression shorts as I have had a couple bruises from a lack of protection in the hip area. These solve that problem, protect better and are just as flexible if not more flexible than my X60 girdle.
So far I'm a big fan and I only have to wait until tomorrow to test them out.
Today I got reckless and stupid, dove after a puck and took someone out in the process.
No penalty was called but it was a dumb thing to do and I feel kind of bad about it. I tried apologizing to the player I took out but she didn't seem like she had the time of day for me.
Got 4 goals tonight, 3 of which came on one shift 1:14 apart. One from the lower circle, a rooftop/doorstep one-timer from a rocket pass through 2 defenders, and then a garbage goal cleanup backhanded 5-hole for the hatty. The 4th was another backhand fiver through traffic.
The game was close until all of that started, and we just proceeded to blow them up.
