Hmm, I never expected to make it this far with Parise. Thought we would have been ruled out from the start.

Although, I have to imagine if Parise wanted to sign in Pittsburgh, it would be done already. He's had a long time to consider playing with Crosby with all the rumors that have been flying.

Also, really prefer Suter. But if the asking price is the same as Parise.....idk. If we get Doan, I will be happy. Just Doan

No.

Gustafsson's decision making with the puck is as good if not better.

He is MUCH softer though.

So if Flyers sign Parise tomorrow is everyone going to ***** and moan about a fourth line that would include Talbot and Wellwood?

Meh, at this point I'd probably explore trade options. Feed I was watching earlier said Carolina might be looking to move Pitkanen. He's at least an offensive minded guy at the back. Sit him with one of the stay at home guys on your second pairing and for a $4.5m cap hit. Seems ok at the right price (no idea what that would be but probably not so much if they are looking to mive him). Not sure why they would want to move him so it's hard to say what they might want but sawping Mesz for him (plus something else?) might at least help the way the D moves the puck. Dunno how he'd feel about coming back though.

No way. Positionally he doesn't have **** on Carle when it comes to defense. Nor does he have a good stick. He is very soft like you mention. Gus would get worn down playing minutes like Carle did. I agree his decision making is better but it isn't like its leaps and bounds better. I've seen him crumble on a forecheck that brings heat and get rattled because of it.

Might be trying to shed some salary, so I doubt they take Mez. Always been a fan of Joni though.

In which case even better, trade some other assets and have a top 6 D who are all top 4 guys... We have the cap space (it's wierd saying that)...

I'd have to imagine the bridges were burned with Pitkanen when he left. He even had Forsberg vouch for him shortly before he was traded. Highly talented but introverted players who appear indifferent don't work in Philadelphia.

The Red Wings are really adding some depth, unless there's some trade brewing.

Franzén - Datsyuk - Samuelsson
Filppula - Zetterberg - Cleary
Bertuzzi - Helm - Tootoo
Miller - Abdelkader - Eaves
Mursak, Emmerton, Brunner, Nyquist

It's believed that are back in the Nash sweepstakes now. They have the ammo to get a deal done, let's see if it happens.

They have depth but there's only one arguable elite player in the bunch and that core is getting up there in age.

Red Wings are busy. Signing Mikael Samuelsson and Jordan Tootoo. I believe they offered a contract to Suter and Parise as well.

Parise strokes my interest, but not at the price and term he's going to command. Suter is really the only option on the market (via free agency or trade) that really interests me anymore with Konopka and Whitney off the table.

Then again there is Doan still.

I would much rather pay Parise $7.7 million until he is 40 than pay Doan $5 million+ a year to play until he's 40.

Some people are criticising Holmgren for not doing much today. After seeing who has been signed and for how much, i'm actually praising Holmgren for not doing much today.

Did you complain when Richards got 12 years at 5.75m/year?

That's basically the same now as 12 years of Parise at 7.75m/year.

I'd say if we really do sign Parise till he's 40, make the NMC/NTC only for the first 6 or 7 seasons.

I really don't understand people whining that Homer is going to overpay for Parise and Sutter, and then go on to suggest we should be overpaying for random 4th line players. Our bottom pairings are already solid. We don't need to add pieces.
