The only D worth signing at this point are Salvador and Carle. You will have to overpay to get either. Suter isn't an option for us. The rest of available D aren't any better than what we have. Still quite a few good forwards left and I am assuming the Stars want to add at least one more.

I like how there is still no main board announcement for Souray.

From that DBD article:

I got the feeling too that they were always more interested in offering a boatload of cash to parise than suter anyway

I really like the signing but I like the reasoning behind it just as much. I'm sorry but if this doesn't scream that one or both of Morrow and Robidas are gone then I don't know what is. If they were staying you would assume a 30+ year old veteran captain and assistant captain could mentor some of those younger guys into the lineup. We weren't otherwise hurting for "veteran leadership", that is of course if management was happy with what they were getting from Morrow.

+1

i don't recall ever seeing a defenseman becoming a top 3 nhl guy so late in his career. particularly with zero hype up to that point.

seems more common with fwds (e.g. kunitz/parenteau).

Souray's a good guy and I'm glad the Stars were able to help him re-establish his career as an NHLer. The penalty situation here between him Ott and Morrow had just gotten out of control though.

but i also meant in terms of his development throughout the years. he was never drafted. i don't recall seeing him on florida's top prospect list.

... and most importantly, none of the gm's in my 30-team keeper league (in which young-ish offensive dmen come at premiums) owned him before last year.

I don't expect us to sign another defenseman but I do think they are working the phones to move at least one going forward. The center situation is a lot more interesting/dire. If Eakin is not ready then they have a problem and Austin is going to be crowded.

What happens there and between Robidas/Pardy/Fistric should be very interesting this summer.

That's he thing, he's never been an offensive D-man. He's a good defender with a nice cannon of a shot. Campbell was the only reason he scored 15+ this year.

He wont replicate his Goals, but he will be a good defensive top 6 option.

Not surprised. reminds me a bit of Salo, but younger, and his favorite team growing up was Vancouver. Both sides were very interested in each other, and the only thing that surprises me is that it took this long.

but he's looking to cash in largely based on his offensive production last season. this (plus his status as the consensus #2 free agent dman) makes him way too expensive for my taste. (i read somewhere he was looking for $6.5M per... wtf?!?)

fyi, not too fond of a potential salvador signing either. he'll cash in on his anomalous playoff performance, making his price likely much too expensive.

if the stars are to sign another dman, i'd want carle.

Salvador only entices me because of his age, and the fact that he can justifiably demand more than 2-3 years.

Jagr will wait until big boys get signed before he decides. As many as 12 teams interested, incl Mtl. Jagr would love to play with Habs.
Is Dallas one of the 12 teams or are they only from the Eastern Conference?

What do you think?

I think Jagr would be interesting in Dallas. I'd like to see it.

That said, someone made a point I hadn't considered before ... Jagr has played his entire career in the East with easier travel. Sounds like Montreal is very interested as well so he's got options in the East.

I doubt there's much of a chance he comes West.

Brodeur stays in New Jersey.

Good, would've been weird seeing him go elsewhere.

Hey guys, just wondering what you can tell me about Adam Burish? Will we like him in SJ?

By the way, I was kinda blown away when I heard about the Ribeiro trade but I guess it sorta made sense with the Whitney signing?

Thanks guys.

You might like Burish as a person, unfortunately that doesn't put pucks in the net... 3rd liner at best though I liked him better on the 4th.

He's a solid fourth liner who can fill in on the third line for very limited periods. He can win face-offs and has no problems blocking shots. The downside to Burish is that he has hands of stone and tends to get hurt quite a bit. He's entertaining and apparently a good presence in the locker room.
