One thing, I think, Jagr would give you is some instant name recognition and a bit of "star" quality. While the Stars have some good core guys to build on like Benn and Eriksson and they've added some talent in the likes of Whitney and Roy, they do need a name fans would buy tickets to see, particularly since many of the guys they've marketed well - Modano, Ott, Zubov, Richards, Turco are no longer there.

Personally, I don't mind the idea of three skating, scoring lines and I believe Jagr could still do that, but I'd still like to see the team go after Doan and some talent on the back end.

You don't have to use 3rd line as a dirty word though.

Dallas' deep 2008 playoff run saw three pretty good lines centered by Richards, Ribeiro, and Modano.

Hypothetically, if you get both Fraser just stays in the minors which is a perfect situation IMO. He gets even more work on his defensive game .

Whitney-Benn-Ryder
Eriksson-Roy-Doan
Vincour-Eakin-Jagr
Morrow-Fiddler-Nystrom

Jagr played mostly 3rd line minutes with PP time in Philadelphia. The roadblock to this situation IMO is convincing Jagr or Doan that Eakin and Vincour are guys they want to play with.

He wants a raise? To be fair, I guess that is Selanne money, but I think that is more than I would want to pay him.

Why not? It's one year and we still need to hit that floor.

I'm not always a fan of Brandon Worley ... but I think he nailed the best way to describe this situation.

He said the team is in the middle of a full rebuild while preparing for a playoff run. This is the exact opposite of what Edmonton (team full of prospects) and Calgary (throw money on bad, free agent contracts) have done.

This is a perfect situation to develop the prospects and win back fans.

I don't think people should get their hopes up on Doan. Hearing he wants a 5 year contract is a deal breaker for me. I think he'll go to San Jose if he is forced to only take a 2-3 year deal, of course assuming Phoenix is out of the question.

As for Jagr, bring him on if it's a 1 year deal at 4 mil. Still a little baffled at why Dallas is on his list of places to go though...

Hitting the floor is a non issue, but you're right I don't expect the Stars to fight to save a few bucks.

Jagr doesn't have more skill than Lindros, Jagr was in much better playing condition however, but he wasn't more skilled than Lindros.

If they sign Jagr, there's no way they sign Doan also, right? Would Doan want to come to a situation where he's pretty much guaranteed less ice time?

Unbelieveable 1 1/2 weeks ago the Stars were nothing and now with all these news and maybe upcoming signings everybody is euphoric.
But we still need a good defenseman guys!

At this point in his career he probably just wants a little ownership stability and a chance to win during the duration of his contract. The question is if he believes the Stars can provide those things.

Strongly agree. Jagr and/or Doan would be really nice but if we get one the focus after that should be put on the back end.

I'm getting ahead of myself, but it's a bit funny that if Jagr and Doan are really possibilities, you almost wish Joe had held off on dealing Ott for the time being, just to see if he could land them both.
Then he could have addressed the defense by trade through Ott, etc.

You're absolutely postively wrong if you think Jagr had more skill than Lindros.

Do you mean more skill during the prime of their careers or toward the end of them? Because Jagr has more skill at this stage in his career than Lindros had towards the end of his.

They'd still have that hole at 2nd line center though. Despite what GMJN was saying after the Ribs trade, he made it clear yesterday they weren't comfortable with Eakin at #2.

Hockey skill doesn't disappear with time, the physical skills do. By the time Lindros came to Dallas he wasn't in the same physical condition he used to be, he conditioning was pretty bad, his skating wasn't what it used to be, concussions clearly had hurt reaction time. All that skill was still there, but he could no longer utilize it.

I thought I had seen Whitney on the second line centering i a few GDTs on the Coyotes' board.
I don't really know if hes comfortable playing center, though.
And of course, i'm sure Joe had no idea Jagr would even entertain the thought of coming to Dallas.
It was just a thought.

So is the tent in your pants gone now? Are you Eric's cousin or something?

Lindros was good, don't get me wrong. But I never saw him as being more skilled than Jagr.

And yes I watched Lindros before Dallas too...never thought he had more skill but to each their own.

I'm his cousin because I said he has more skill than Jagr?

He did have more skill than Jagr, I don't know how you can say otherwise. Without injuries Lindros is most likely a top 5 forward of all time.

I loved Jagr as a kid, it'd be pretty cool to have him on the Stars. Impart some wisdom to our young Czechs maybe like Dvorak except with actual production.

Don't think that'd be an issue.

Also I'll again reiterate I don't think Doan is coming to Dallas, nor do I really want him. Especially for 5 years.
