Because if you think the Blues won't do as well, it implies that players won't play as well. I'm just interested as to your reasoning as to why we don't do as well.
Stats don't equate to team play and the effectiveness of Hitchcock's system. Injuries should be about the same, if not a little better durability, but teams WILL figure the Blues out. Let's not pretend that I don't want another division title, as that's simply not the case...I just don't know if adding Tarasenko and Cole replacing Colaiacovo is enough for contending over the next few years. Now...If the stars align and Stewart, Tarasenko, and Cole have big years, then the sky is the limit. Same goes for if you replace Cole with Garrison.

@jprutherford:

Armstrong: "We were active in talking to some players that we thought could help our team. But we're pretty finite on what we need ...(1/2)

A lot of the players that were signed today, they didn't fill a need or desire for our team." (2/2)

About right. So far nobody's signed who I wished the Blues had signed.

Also,
@jprutherford: Armstrong wouldn't discuss names but it's believed that the #stlblues made phone calls today to Philly's Matt Carle & Fla's Jason Garrison.

Garrison and Carle are opposite types. Garrison has an incredible shot. Carle is a passer, not a shooter. Carle is soft and is average at best in his own end. Garrison is physical and one of the NHL's best defensive dmen. Carle is a PMD, Garrison doesn't really lug the puck. Garrison is significantly more successful against top lines.

PN, didn't you want a PMD type to counter LA's forecheck?

I want to see what Vancouver is paying him. He probably would've went there anyway, but I wonder how much they overpaid.

I wanted someone who could be steady, be physical, and make the first pass out. Garrison does that. But he's not the guy typically skating the puck up ice. He wouldn't have needed to be, but now it's moot. What I don't want is Carle, who is Colaiacovo-like in his defensive positioning.

Armstrong is saying trade's still an option. Now I'd look to get a forward in free agency (Doan, maybe?) and maybe pry Yandle away by using Perron or Oshie in a package. But if they can't get a Doan-quality forward then I'm not quite as excited about that.

I just don't see a good fit available through trade currently. Maybe Vancouver will move someone or Army will have better luck at the deadline.

Seems like he justed wanted to go to Vancouver all along, and they probably gave him the longest contract.

Probably would have cost a touch more for another team. Garrison was pretty vocal about wanting to go to VAN.

Probably a hometown discount but would've definitely been ok with that for him
