Who on the Blues (outside of Brian Elliott. Let's face it. He's not going repeat last years numbers. He should be fine, but not THAT good.) overachieved this year in your mind?
Because if you think the Blues won't do as well, it implies that players won't play as well. I'm just interested as to your reasoning as to why we don't do as well.
Stats don't equate to team play and the effectiveness of Hitchcock's system. Injuries should be about the same, if not a little better durability, but teams WILL figure the Blues out. Let's not pretend that I don't want another division title, as that's simply not the case...I just don't know if adding Tarasenko and Cole replacing Colaiacovo is enough for contending over the next few years. Now...If the stars align and Stewart, Tarasenko, and Cole have big years, then the sky is the limit. Same goes for if you replace Cole with Garrison.
Garrison and Carle are opposite types. Garrison has an incredible shot. Carle is a passer, not a shooter. Carle is soft and is average at best in his own end. Garrison is physical and one of the NHL's best defensive dmen. Carle is a PMD, Garrison doesn't really lug the puck. Garrison is significantly more successful against top lines.
PN, didn't you want a PMD type to counter LA's forecheck?
I wanted someone who could be steady, be physical, and make the first pass out. Garrison does that. But he's not the guy typically skating the puck up ice. He wouldn't have needed to be, but now it's moot. What I don't want is Carle, who is Colaiacovo-like in his defensive positioning.
Armstrong is saying trade's still an option. Now I'd look to get a forward in free agency (Doan, maybe?) and maybe pry Yandle away by using Perron or Oshie in a package. But if they can't get a Doan-quality forward then I'm not quite as excited about that.
