I would think Carle could sign by the end of the night. If he signs, we are definitely going with a trade.

Obviously I'd still take Suter but nobody thinks the Blues have a shot at that anymore. So I really hope they don't trade for Bouwmeester as a panic move. And please no Carle.

The key is it has to be a guy that's good enough, not just "a guy because they need one." There's a big difference and you can screw yourself if you panic and get the latter type. Giordano, Yandle, Vlasic, one of the Ranger guys, maybe Despres or Gormley.

Mother £#%*+^~. Damn it well that leave Carle(minus trade options)

Also I really hope they don't even try at this point to sign Suter. I never thought they would/could, but there are rumors floating around like 13yrs @ 100mil. Are you freaking kidding me?

Sign Petro to a 15 yr contact at 6.5-7 now before we lose him to UFA in a few years. Obviously the CBA will have a huge impact in future salary structure, but even if they drop players share to 50%, the cap stays the same this year but will steadily increase over the life of the new CBA deal. Especially if they put a contract length cap provision in the new deal. We need to lock him up LONG term or he will get priced out of our future budget once/if he hits UFA status.

Now...If the stars align and Stewart, Tarasenko, and Cole have big years, then the sky is the limit. Same goes for if you replace Cole with Garrison.
What will happen with the us? How do you want to look at it? We had a 4-10 record in shootouts, that probably won't be the case next year. Our young players will be a year older, and better from their experiences this year, whether that shows up on the stat sheet is another matter. I think it is easy to overlook the improvement from progression and maturity. Will we win the Division? Maybe not, but Stewart isn't going to be any worse, Tarasenko is a significant addition, Schwartz might be as well, we start the year with a healthy Perron and McDonald etc. As many arguments as there is for why we might not repeat this seasons success, there is one for why we will. Hell, even our record against our Division was pretty bad last year and we still won it.

As for our rivals, they all have their issues. Nashville are losing Suter, and may have to consider trading Weber. Detroit have lost Lidström and we'll have to see if they can go some way to replacing him. Chicago have been average, at best, for a couple of years now and are filled with excuses; no goaltending, lack of depth, one of their star players is an utter moron etc.

I'd like to think Armstrong has shown himself to be smarter than that. He, so far, seems to have his priorities clear.

Personally I like Cole better then our trade options. Giordano, Yandle or Staal id like but I doubt id like the price of them.

Outside of those 3 and Suter id honestly rather just play Cole.

He's said he is getting a top 4 defensemen no matter what. He's not going to stand pat, which I think is a huge mistake.

Some of the guys mentioned for trades in here are probably not even available.

I agree we need a top pairing not top 4. Just let Cole play.

Then, once more, we need to stand pat. I'd rather ot make a move then trade for J-Bo.

EDIT: Anyone willing to reopen the Schwartz for Gormerly door? Because both teams options are getting thin.

Carle would be fine IMO as long as he is not the #1 guy. He played well next to Pronger, so next to Pietrangelo, I think he would also do well.

Now if he goes to Detroit, that would be great because he would be in too big of a role.

Blues sign three players for Peoria.

The parent club signed defenseman Taylor Chorney, defenseman Scott Ford and goaltender Mike McKenna to one-year, NHL-AHL contracts.

Apparently Armstrong feels bad for us, the fans. Thanks Army, but last season and Tarasenko is good enough for me right now.

It seems like he won't make a move if he has to overpay or if there isn't a fit. Cole playing with Pietrangelo is still a definite possibility.

The only problem I have with he prospect of Carle is the terms. $4m+ and 4+ years is probably what it will take, and I don't think he offers enough to justify that. Maybe our team defensive set up would help his defensive game without having any negative affect on his offense. Maybe he would be Colaiacovo at an extra $2m a year.

I'd rather us do what Detroit did last season. Detroit saved as much cap space as possible to go big this summer. I think we should save as much real money as possible to go big next summer.

A penny saved today, is a nickel we can spend tomorrow. Ok, not tomorrow, but next summer.

Let the Garrison/Carle/Top 4 money earn interest, and make our move next summer. Cole will be good enough and maybe he is the player we are looking for anyway.

The hometown discount.

Garrison left $ on table - was offered "Wideman money" elsewhere - but wanted to play for hometown VAN, which held firm on internal $ scale.

It's worth repeating. Cole in the lineup over Colaiacovo (which ultimately even happened by the end of the playoffs Cola was so godawful) is not going to hurt the Blues in the standings. If they play the same way and have fewer concussions up front they should be basically the same team. They have from now until the deadline to add someone via trade for the postseason run.

Cole with the experience can still be exactly the player that we need for the playoffs. The regular season really doesn't matter that much for us anymore, it is all about the playoffs.

Blues need to take the training wheels off Cole and let him play every game starting day 1.
