Ales Hemsky "Heavily in Play"

Per Ryan Rishaug of TSN

Quote:
It's my belief that Ales Hemsky is heavily in play today on the trade front. #TSN

Just a quick word of warning, other team's fans Hemsky is not a terrible player, and Oilers fan he's not a Hall of Famer yet, either.

I don't think this is news...I think Hemsky is heavily in play until he is traded. I don't think we'll have any takers though, unless we can get a top 4 d-man or a power forward for him.

he is a great player in fact, but the injuries... it's a shame really. Coupled with the 5m caphit, acquiring him would be too risky for my liking

I didn't know he had such a projection.

Kidding aside, he'd be a valuable piece for a contending club looking for secondary scoring. If Hudler walks, and Detroit doesn't sign Semin, might Detroit be a fit?

I would be pretty upset if he was traded after we just got him signed at the deadline.

FFS Rishaug is reliable too. Hopefully it's at least for an "upgrade".

If the Oil can create a package with Hemsky and get an established top 4 defenceman + in return i think its a perfect situation.

I think another team will be really happy with Hemskys play too. Hes a top winger in the NHL without problems and can play on the top line if he stays healthy now that his shoulder is supposedly fixed. Hes a victim of RW depth right now in Edmonton.

I like Hemsky and wouldn't mind him on the Sens. Our system and the softer EC could benefit him.

Didn't he get his shoulders fixed finally? Those were his only real injury problem(seriously, go look at his injury history, he only has like 30 missed games due to injuries other than shoulders).

If so, I could see the Pens being in on him if they miss out on the top guys this year.

Since the Oilers have such a wealth of future top-6ers I can't imagine his return would be ridiculous. I wonder if management would be interested in a Martin for Hemsky swap(same cap hit and swapping needs for needs).

I think its been established over the past two deadlines that Tambellini won't get his asking price for Hemsky. So unless his asking price is significantly lower (which I personally hope is not the case), I'd be surprised if a deal is done. What teams are potential partners? Who needs a top six playmaking winger? If Columbus is trading Nash, I could see them really using a guy like Hemsky, but am not sure who they would offer up that Edmonton could use. Detroit maybe as well, but we need defense and unless they sign Suter and Garrison, they don't have the d-men to move.

The Oilers were expecting to draft Murray and have Hemsky be their 2nd line RW. He was signed with that in mind.
Then we got Yakupov and signed Schultz.

Now we have 3 top 6 right wingers and a bigger need for top level bottom sixers and depth defencemen.

What defensemen do you have that would be available? That's kind of our most pressing need.

He's definitely a top 6 winner, but too injury prone to return anything of value. High risk/high reward.

Any teams heavily in play for Parise who strike out could look for Ales as a fall back net, he's a better option than Olli and Semin IMO.

Yes, his shoulders were repaired, and he took some time to adjust, but after his adjustment period he seemed to bounce back and had a decent last 1/3 of the season.

I doubt Martin would waive his NTC for Edmonton. And honestly, I'm not sure if Martin is the type of guy the Oil are after. I'm sure they'd rather have a guy like Depres, and no need to scream about him being not available, I get that.

I don't think I've seen a more consistently hard worker for how injury prone he is.

How is he soft exactly? Injury prone, yes in the past those shoulders have been awful, but he doesn't shy away from the phsical play. If he did, he probably wouldn't have the shoulder problems.
