Glad to see him finding a home. Wish him nothing but the best and signing with Detroit...that's pretty darn close to the best.

Could be a great deal for both sides.

Should be a decent back up goalie. If Francois Allaire couldn't help him become more than that, than that's where I think he'll stay... as a back up.

Figures.

He struggles in Toronto and then Detroit gets him for free. Howard - Gustavsson tandem is something they can count on for years to come unless the Monster wants a starter role at some point.

He is still a good goalie IMO. Huge and competitive. And most importantly, Swedish. Yeah, he's going to do well in Detroit.

Unless the Red Wings sign Allaire as the goalie coach, he will really come along well in Detroit.

So is he the starter for Detroit every time they play Toronto now?

Good on Gustavsson, could still be a good backup.

One thing that concerns me is that on the Leafs, Gustavsson needed to play often to get in that groove. If he's a backup and not getting many games, it could work against him. We'll have to see though.

I think he really has the tools to challenge for the starter. Call me crazy, but under a different goalie coach and instruction, may allow him to flourish. His problem in Toronto was mainly the coaches trying to turn him into a blocking, butterfly goalie, which is the exact opposite of everything that made him great in the SEL. Lots of fluky goals that had no business going in, because he's supposed to stay in a certain style. If he can just get back to the basics of how he started, and always played, prior to coming to Toronto, I think this is a great deal for Detroit. As we all know, Detroit is unmatched in their ability to evaluate talents.

Hope he do well in Detroit then. As a backup with less pressure he could maybe be decent, better than the current options DRW have at least.

Hopefully you can get the Toronto stank off of him and it could be a decent signing.

I think this could become a great deal for the wings. A good back up and 1.5 mil is pretty decent for a good back up on a 70 mil cap!

Solid signing. Gustavsson showed flashes of awesomeness in Toronto. It was short lived but as long as he can be consistent, I can see him becoming more than a good back up goalie.

Hope the Red Wings' goalie coach will let Gus play his thing rather than to play the style Allaire tries to shove down his throat...
