It does. Allaire tried molding him into a goalie he was not, instead of allowing him to play to his strengths. We'll see now what he can do without having to worry about playing a certain way.

I hadn't thought of this move, but I like it. I feel he'll do better in Detroit than in Toronto, and I think it will be a step up for the Wings.

Little risk. High reward. Should have much better play than Conklin last year and should have much better health than JMac.

Yeah, good luck with that. He's talented and big but you kind of have to squint and ignore the fact that he's 28, has had injury troubles and still hasn't learned how to position himself properly to think this is a particularly good signing.

Allaire is a garbage coach who expects his goalies to adapt to him instead adapting to the goalies. Really couldn't have been anymore clear, especially given his history. Give Allaire a athletic goalie with good reflexes and watch him tell that goalie to throw those things out the window because all that matters if the puck hits you, rebounds be damned!

Mental mistakes will drive any goalie coach crazy. Maybe he does improve and his numbers will certainly look better with Detroit but I don't see him becoming anything more than a back up.

If you don't like Allaire's effect on goalies, wait until you see a full season of Randy Carlyle.

Really hope he plays well. Allaire did destroy him. Can't wait to see him in action in Det, have a good feeling.

Oh well, good for Gus.
Likely wanted to get out of Canada. Winnipeg was absolutely hectic last year and Detroit is a solid fit for him.

I love this move.

Detroit is my 1b team and Ive been defending Gus left and right.

The same goalie that showed up in January for Toronto before Wilson decided to platoon his goalies, was the same goalie that was voted Swedish player of the year.

He deserved better, and I pray he reaches the level his talent can attain.

Couldn't be happier for both sides.

This myth that Allaire ruined him is still circling?

With Lidstrom retiring the Wings were short one Swede. Makes perfect sense.

Thank you.

Don't see Burke hiring a goalie coach that just "ruins" goalies.

He had a history before Toronto of not getting along with certain goalies...

Believe it or not, Brian Burke is human and can make mistakes.

And he also coached Patrick Roy and JS Giguere who both went on to win Stanley Cups. I don't think Allaire can really be used as an excuse. Gustavsson just doesn't have the mental make up to be a good goalie in the NHL.

Glad to see Gus end up on a great team like Detroit, hopefully he rebounds there. Wishing him nothing but the best, would be great to see him put up solid numbers.

Wish him the best, I truly do. Never worked out in Toronto, but you can see the talent in his game. If he can eliminate the mental mistakes he makes, he'll be very good. The good news is that a team like Detroit is probably the best place he could have picked to make that happen.

Was the market so low on Gus Burke really had to just give him away? Quite literally too

It's not like it's a huge loss. Zach Parise going UFA? There's a huge loss.

Good luck to him in Detroit, just not when he faces the Leafs because more often than not former Leafs tend to burn them.
