He had very solid stats prior to all the injury trouble, might be someone to look at.

I know and am so glad he is here, great steal by Maloney. I am just drinking some wine, eating some cheese, listening to a violin concerto and lamenting an almost decade of terrible drafting by this team, Hanzal and Yandle excepted. As a result we have to hope some longshot free agents work out, or that Maloney can work some alchemy and turn the lead that we can spend on trades and turn it into gold. Things have definitely improved but I feel we are feeling the pinch.

Vin et fromage? Well done. What are you sipping/nibbling on?

I can almost agree that we are in a pinch because we have no cheap depth coming up. But I think it's more to do with the budget than anything else.

Yandle and Hanzal have made an impact and are being paid accordingly.

Part of the reason we aren't able to hang onto expensive older players is because good young draft picks like OEL and Boedker are about to get paid.

I was thinking even with regards to trade fodder, everyone who is not a prospect or a pick we need to round out next years roster. The budget and uncertainty causing us to bleed a player or 2 every year doesn't help either.

I have to say though, if Boedker can pick up where he left off in the playoffs on his way to a payday, things will look a lot healthier for next year regardless of any trades or signings. Also, Hanzal seems to keep adding to his game a little every season, if this continues that contract of his is going to keep looking better and better. We are not totally devoid of homegrown offensive talent.

I want Semin for 2 reasons.

1- He's a solid hockey player.
2- I would get his jersey, wear it to school, and it would be halarious to watch the non-hockey fan's faces.

One of the most unfortunate victims of the terrible system of Romanizing the Russian alphabet. From what i understand the cryllic to Latin translation method used by the nhl is outdated and ineffective.

I personally don't know much about it but they never look anything like they sound. The iihf has a much better looking approach.

I'd be curious to find out how they do this.

Seems like maybe Semmin would be better.

Nope. Syomin. And Fedorov would be Fyodorov I believe. Looks more like it actually sounds in Russian.

You're right...I totally misread the ё in Сёмин on Wikipedia...my bad (eyes).

Wow...Semin isn't even close, then. What's the NHL been thinking? Russians in the NHL aren't exactly a new thing.

UFA still on the market I'd like to have:

Daniel Winnik
Petr Sykora
Kyle Wellwood
Alex Semin

So I've went on record about Winnik before, a little surprised he hasn't been picked up yet, unless San Jose is waiting to see what happens with Nash before they do anything else.

With all the talk of Steve Sullivan, why hasn't anyone talked about Sykora? Two years younger and almost as many points. If we want to have a veteran scorer to replace Whitney why not try to bring in Petr? Plus it'd be another Czech to complete that line

Can someone explain to me how Wellwood didn't stick with us a couple years ago? If I remember correctly the last roster spot left came down between Wellwood and Turris a few seasons ago and when Turris won out instead of sending Kyle to San Antonio he left and signed with San Jose, and then went on to move to Winnipeg where he put up almost 50 points last season. Id rather bring him back in than bring Langkow back for our 3rd/4th center.

As for Semin... A man can dream, right?

And one last question. It seemed to be a debate of who we should retain between Pyatt and Brule. With Taylor leaving, do you think it'll force GMDM's hand to bring Gilbert back in?

He was mentioned a page or so ago. I like Sullivan more because he's more of a cheaper direct replacement for Whitney. More on the creative side rather than the goal scoring side. Better on the PP than Sykora. Also he's a LW which fits with Vrby and Hanzal.

Also I think he's straight up more likely to be on the move than Sykora, who I suspect stays in NJ once Parise leaves.

I know I have a soft spot for Langkow, but I'd like to see him back as our 3rd line center. Obviously at a cheaper price though.

Langkow did well in his new role in the playoffs but the only thing is, we need to improve rather then maintain status quo or we will only, at best, come away with the same results as last year. Sounds like Einstein's definition of insanity.

Yeah he did. Brule is really the only one of note that didn't get one.

Steve Sullivan has agreed to a one-year deal with the Phoenix Coyotes

Could be decent for us and maybe he can help teach our short, young guys how to play in the NHL.

Sully is nowhere near as dangerous as the wizard at ES, but he'll certainly help replace what he did on the PP for you.

A bit pissed we lost him potentially without a RHS for for the PP to replace him coming in. Parise watch is killing my soul.

I'm really starting to think he's actually Maloney or Treliving behind that monitor.
