I'm still baffled by the notion that Semin is a good idea (for this team) or that he would sign here.

A couple of posters have spoken pretty highly of him despite his ability to be lazy. Also, I am surprised that at this point no one else was willing to sign him.

Here is my crazy idea for today. I think it is possible that Doan spoke with Semin and told him to hold out on signing until the ownership mess is complete and sign where ever he signs.

Now back to taking shots as I may have just gave Eklund a new rumor.

He is a scoring touch we need. He can play defensively but has never really been challenged I think. Do you think Tipp would allow him to **** around in our system? Nope, he would bench Semin until he played the way he was supposed to. Then you have the leaders on the team would wouldn't let him get away with messing up the locker room, no one wants to be the black sheep. I could totally see him conforming. Plus I'm liking the look of a line with Semin - Hanzal - Vrbata. That could be devastating, plus if that didnt work out in chemistry them move him to the right on Vermette. Phoenix is an attractive destination if you remove the ownership cluster ****. We have lots to do, its nice out during the season and in the summer when its hot he can ship off to wherever he sees fit. The only problem I could see is him getting here, getting his crap kicked by Tipp and refusing to play. At that point just throw him on wavers and bury him in the minors. I see him as a high upside project. Plus if I were GMDM I wouldn't offer anything more than 2 years.

Semin would be an amazing addition. There is no way he signs here. Just my feeling. No Russians on the team and extremely small Russian population in the metro area. We are talking about a guy who won't even give interviews in English (at least not up until very, very recently...like the last year...if at all). He's always had a Russian security blanket in DC. I really can't see him ending up in the desert someplace. I think he'd rather sign with the Rangers or Devils for 2/3 the price.

Zero chance Semin signs with the Yotes but he'd be a solid addition. His rep is far worse than his actual on ice play. While the scoring was down last season (as it was for all the Caps), his effort and defensive play was just fine. Somebody will sign him to a reasonable deal, stick him with an actual good center for the first time in his career and he'll pot 40 again.

I think Semin's scoring combined with his defensive ability would fit in perfectly here. With Doan back in the fold, we'd have a strong group to influence his daily attitude. I'd be for it.

Nashville has no choice but to match this or they lose their franchise player. Those 4 1st round picks aren't going to make much of a difference seeing the Flyers are a playoff team despite how ****** Bryz is.

I suspect Nashville matches but I would hardly say they have no choice.

Owners want 25% roll back on salaries but are handing out 100 million dollar deals like it's going out of style. Figure that one out. #NHL -- Paul Bissonnette (@BizNasty2point0)

I wish he would sign here. My degree is in Russian and I've never used it since I got it. I use my minor (French) all the time as a French teacher - and I made signs for Vermette & Pouliot in French. So I'd welcome a Russian player, it would be good to be able to say that my studies were worth it.

Isn't that sad, that the only use out of my BA degree could be making signs for a hockey player?

The Russian community here is rather small, although it does exist. More Serbs than Russians, but that's not the same thing.

Semin needs to pay more attention to Bryz - when giving interviews, just pick topics that are really un-hockey focused. Then nobody will notice your language skills, they'll just be amazed that you spoke about the maglev train or the poaching of elephants in Africa.

I don't think Nashville can afford to pay Weber 14mil each of the first five years of that deal.

Wonder if Briere could be had?

If they rollback 20% again, Bissonnette will lose 160kay. Weber will lose 22mil. Haha.

Agent: Phoenix Coyotes' Shane Doan waiting for Jamison group confirmation

Quote:
"Let's narrow this list down and take a hard look at a few of the ones that you really feel like there's a really good fit now that you know who's interested and be fair to the clubs that you might not have as much interest in and let them know that they should go a different direction," Bross said of what he plans to tell Doan. "That's probably the next step, and I'm hopeful that Shane will be open to going down that path by the weekend."

Sounds like this weekend will have some movement?

On a side note, because the CBA is getting reworked and we will most likely see some restrictions on both length and bonuses, it benefits the team when looking at pending RFA status of OEL.

I'd hate to go into next season with OEL unsigned and be under the same CBA, I'd have to think that many teams would put in offer sheets for OEL.

And, apparently the signing bonuses wouldn't be touched by a salary reduction. So, he would only lose $8.4m with a 20% rollback.

Maybe Nashville will match and ship him off next season. That's still taking the risk of Weber getting hurt, though. You gotta feel for Nashville.
