Everybody else is trying to get bigger and Dallas is getting smaller...

BTW, looking at Dallas' lineup I don't think they are on par with us. Their D is much weaker and to me they look to be a push at forward.

I cant wait till the NHL no longer owns this team. Now we lose a chance at Derek Roy.

I'm guessing Sullivan is waiting on the Parise situation. It could be the Pens will bring Sullivan back only if they miss out on Parise. They could probably get both Semin and Sullivan for a smaller cap hit.

It's been the same for a while. July 1st is not how this team is built. Maloney makes smart trades when stupid teams make mistakes on July 1st.

Frankly I'd be worried if the team did splash out. Amonte was not a good experience.

This 100%. As rotten as it is to see Whitney (and Doan?) leave only because of the ownership situation, we have not been a team to jump on premium name UFA's under DM.
This year we already got Michalek for scraps because Pittsburgh is just planning on going out and making a mistake. Think about the teams that are already squeezed for cash and are going to need room after they sign someone. Would we be interested at this point in an overpaid Frolik and a decent prospect from Chicago at under market value, or Connelly/Lombardi from Toronto for a song, for example? I think we would.

At this point im just hoping we don't resign Langkow. I'd rather sign Wellwood then re-up with Langkow

If it takes Langkow to keep Doan then I'm ok with signing Langkow for a one off.

I don't think Langkow will have an effect on Doan staying whatsoever.

Nah GJ called Parise and Suter and told them to wait until the 9th so he can introduce them and Doan together.

How far from the floor are we?

EDIT: Answering my own question....
Capgeek says Cap Payroll $40,033,333

So about 14 million.

I still like the idea of getting Hemsky to replace Whitney provided it's not at the expense of OEL, Yandle, Klesla, Z, Gormley or Rundblad. That said, if they can't retain Doan, nothing else will really matter. I just don't see the team performing well without Doan at the helm.

GM will pull off a great move to get us up to cap. We have a butt load of cap space, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I really hope GJ convinces Doan then actually buys the team. This way we can get a few great players coming our way without whining.

Maybe the Flamers will want him back since Jokinen left for whiter pastures...

I don't think we're going to see any young forwards making the jump this year. I'd love to be surprised, but ...

With that in mind, looking only at UFA and not trades, who do we fill out the roster with? In no particular order of preference.

"Dumpster diving" to fill out the roster:

Bring back:
Doan
Brule -- I'd like to see him back. Great hustle and offensive instincts, will have to improve positionally to get more minutes.
Pyatt -- Looked great in the playoffs. Where was he before that?

Older guys who can at the least play in the league without embarrassing themselves:
Arnott -- Can still contribute in both ends. Not getting any younger.
Reinprecht -- On the decline, but a more or less known quantity. Fast, defensively responsible.
Sturm -- Coming off an injury plagued season. Like Reinprecht he's fast and defensively responsible.
Hagman -- Versatile. Streaky. Tippett connection.
Dvorak -- 4th line. PK.
Langenbrunner -- as above.
Fedotenko -- Essentially older Pyatt.
Sykora -- Scoring winger. He's used to a defensive system.

Square pegs in round holes:
A.Kostitsyn -- Wolski-esque. Likes Scottsdale. Cannot even imagine.
Eric Fehr -- Injuries, injuries have derailed his career. Shoulder injuries are always big question marks in hockey. Definite potential upside. Only 26 so there's some hope as a reclamation project. Could help Portland.
F Brunnstrom -- Flash in the pan. No defense. Could help Portland.

This made me chuckle.

You think he would get mad if Maloney brought that up as a positive to playing for the Coyotes during negotiations?

"In addition to playing a great team with an amazing coaching staff, you'll be able to enjoy the fine night life Scottsdale has to offer..."

Just pay Semin 7 million a year. **** it. We're 14 MILLION under the floor. Get Semin, sign Doan, sign Brule and Chichura, and we're set.

I can't imagine Maloney even calls his agent. Didn't Tippett make a comment about the Scottsdale expedition being a distraction and that "our guys" didn't seem to have a problem concentrating?

Heard Yandle might be Available? What's his price tag?

Phoenix gets:
Perron-top 6 left winger
D'agostini- probably a depth forward for blues, but maybe a top 9 forward.
Cole- defensive prospect
3rd round pick

St. Louis gets:
Yandle
2nd

Just asking, would love to see the blues acquire this guy.

John Gambadoro‏@Gambo620

Shane Doans priority is to remain a Coyote but if the Glendale lease deal is delayed beyond July 7th look for him to entertain offers.

John Gambadoro‏@Gambo620

If that happens San Jose could be the leader for Captain Coyotes services. Doan is looking for a 5-year deal with Phx.

If we're trading Yandle, it will be for a proven, first line player. Not a 2nd line winger, and scraps.

The common response to this on the Sharks board is that Doan is old and slow and would only do 3 years max.
