It's irrational hatred. Same people probably wanted MDZ traded for scraps last year.
Actually I think you're being irrational. I'm not a Mitchell hater by the way. If the Rangers had re-signed him it wouldn't have bothered me at all but since you brought up the playoffs Mitchell was scratched for the final two games. Five other times during the playoffs he got less than 5 minutes of ice time. Only twice did he play more than 10 minutes in a playoff game this year and one of those two times was in the 6 period game 3 against Washington. Torts didn't seem to have as much confidence in him as you think.
It's not a huge loss.
And neither is JAM. He's very small. He should have a much better opportunity with Columbus than he would get from us. If given a choice between JAM and MZA I would have take MZA and we all know that it was a real struggle for him. JAM's going the route of PAP. He might (and that's questionable) put up points but he's not going to be an all around player. The other poster claiming he could have beat out Prust or Rupp--that's a ****ing joke. Hockey is not just offense--the Flyers have been trying that for a long time. Your 4th liners have got to be able to grind. Mitchell was okay at that--he could take the hits. He could make nice plays sometimes but mostly he was a non factor. Prust is a much bigger loss.
Think someone should bring up Avery--you'll get your sense of humor back.
It's just rusted, cracked, and missing a wheel. One more hit and it'll disintegrate.
