We already have Montador for that role though. Not a bad bottom-pairing guy or 7th as long as he's cheap. I didn't really think we needed more defensemen though. However, I like it since Brookbank makes the team tougher. He'll stand up for teammates and drops the mitts if he needs too. It's nice to have someone that'll get nasty if need be I suppose, so depending on money it's not too bad of a signing.

Good signing. Reliable bottom pairing defenseman that plays simple game and isn't afraid of physical stuff.

What is boneheaded about this?

Last summer Carcillo/Mayers turned out to be solid signings

Brookbank's stats last year

80 GP
3 goals
11 assists
14 pts
+11
72 PIM
15:36 TOI (1:49 TOI SH)
120 hits
110 blocked shots

Why do I have a feeling this is Hjalmarsson replacement?

Don't see how this will help out the Blackhawks. Not a bad #6/7 guy but still I don't see how he is an improvement over who the blackhawks had as their #6 last season. I just see this signing as a way of taking away ice time from the inexperienced Olsen. Would much rather see Olsen getting playing time than Brookbank.

Brookbank IMO is not worth investing two years into since he's been wildly inconsistent in his career.

He also signed Montador, who he is trying to move a yr later.

Olsen needs to work on his skating

The more he played the more he got exposed for his poor skating

Montador may or may not play this upcoming season, due to concussions issues. This isn't a bad signing, depending on the money.

Olsen needs to earn his ice time. There are enough veterans he can replace if he outplays them.

That's 8 defensemen now competing for spots. So either Montador is worse off than we thought or someones getting traded (Hjlamarsson). It's also possible that Olsen starts in Rockford. I think he'd be given every chance to make the Hawks, although brookbank is a decent fallback if he doesn't.

Olsen should be back in Rockford. He's got the smarts, but his skating needs a lot of work.

Hjalmarsson is probably getting traded either way. We need changes to our defensive corps, and he's the odd man out.

Great signing by Bowman. Signing Oduya was a gaffe for sure though. Team looks much better without that slug. Hopefully Brookbank gets consistent minutes on the 3rd pairing/PK, good partner for Leddy.

Not so sure about that. I guess we will have to see what kind of money he's getting, and who he's replacing

Heh, thought that this was Wade Brookbank at first.

Pretty good depth signing. Significant improvement over O'Donnell.
